It seems that one of the more prolific commenters on this blog may have recently died.

Patrick C. Flannery, 54, Jamestown, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at his home.

Arrangements are pending with Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

It’s not certain that this was necessarily *our* Pat Flannery, but the age, name and location all seem about right.  If this is wrong, I’m sure Pat will pop up with some snark, and this post will be pulled. If this is right… well, no more snark from Pat, I guess.

  1. He was my age. Christ. RIP Pat.

  2. I’m going to try to get confirmation through the funeral home and hopefully obtain some more details than a one-line obit notice. I had noticed an unusual absence over the past two weeks which made me suspicious in the first place. I fear the worst. How many Flannerys would be living in Jamestown ND?

According to Whitepages.com, two. Pat and Michael.

  3. *Sniffle* RIP if it was him.

  4. RIP

  5. Damn. He was young. He was also good man and a knowledgeable one.

  6. A resourse lost. There are few folks out there with a knowledge of aerospace history. Maybe a retrospective of some of his previous posts could be had at a later date…Not enough is being done to compile this new age of e-mail and post correspondance for future historians, now that actual letters are few. Its all we have left to us, outside of memories…

  7. I enjoyed reading his erudite commentary. RIP.

  8. Scott this might seem a bit out of place, but it might be wise for you to contact the estate–I know, gauche–to see what might be done with his book–and papers–collection. I have this nightmare of things being thrown in the trash willy-nilly as ‘important’ things like furniture are moved to the estate sale.

It might be that the local library will get his effects, and if so, good–but we all know some of the best books are sold as discards to make room for the new.
