Back in my college days, I had my share of run-ins with the campus “embrace diversity or else, damnit” cops over cartoons posted to my door. Such radical bits of far-right racist propaganda as Calvin and Hobbes caused all kinds of ruckus, and got me some fun meetings with people who, in a rational world, would have been unemployed. Shrug. Well, it seems that things have *not* improved:
Short form: a professor stuck a poster on his door showing Captain Mal Reynolds from “Firefly” with the quote “You don’t know me, son, so let me explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you’ll be awake. You’ll be facing me. And you’ll be armed.” And so the local sensitivity gestapo came along, stole the poster, and threatened the professor with *criminal* charges. The professor did the proper thing, and put up a new poster:
And so the same events play out… poster stolen, threats of legal action made. Professor repo0rted to the university “threat assessment team.”
Sigh.
I just wish that *another* Mal Reynolds quote was the one that actually started this: “You’ve got the right same as anyone to live and try to kill people.”

At a university near me, “KILL BUSH” posters weren’t touched. University life is all about fitting in.
University today is about goose-stepping with the herd and not to engage in doublethink. If you manage to do that, you’re doubleplusgood.
Another way of looking at it is that present day free speech activists are pussies. It would take a few dozen students running a “free speech” movement to open things up on any campus. All you need are a not easily arrested and held group of students who feel strongly enough about free speech to get themselves beaten up and arrested over it.
Anyone who does that is quite likely to be asked to leave long before they get beat up.
What’s really disturbing: the combination of anonymous thuggery and vandalism with official indifference and contempt. That’s true fascism. The Party needs both brownshirts to hassle people in the street and a propaganda ministry to define correct thought.
Modern America is descending into fascism. They just call it anti-fascism.
The entire free world is descending into fascism, and America isn’t the worst of it by a long shot. There are Europeans and Canadians (don’t know about Aussies) who wish to God that someone had written them a First Amendment.
