It seems that the British Labour [sic] Party wants to make blogging without a license illegal.
UK Labour Party wants journalism licenses
It seems they want a register of licensed journalists, and if you’re not on it… you can’t report on the news.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
It’s England, you need a license to watch TV there.
As I understand it, the license to watch TV in England is a tax, not intended to limit who can own a TV set.
Let’s be grateful that we have the First Amendment here in the USA. The UK is not really a place for freedom of press or political expression.
This is something I would expect the Conservative Party over there do, not the Labour Party.
It’s just like a political party to slit its own throat. I think eventually all political parties go dumb — Both the Republicans and Democrats proved it, now the Labour party.
A political party should want freedom of press and freedom of expression, DAMMIT!!!
Quick clues:
Who is the traditional media supporting? It’s not the US Republican party, and I’m guessing not the British Conservative party.
Which segment of the media benefits from having the business licensed? Not the small independents.
