Loyal Dog Mourns, Lays at Casket of Fallen Navy Seal

Navy SEAL U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jon T. Tumilson was among the 30 American troops killed August 6 when Taliban insurgents downed their Chinook helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade. At his funeral in Iowa, his dog Hawkeye paid his last respects, walking up to the casket, lying down in front of it, and heaving a sigh.

If you’re up for it, there’s a photo at the link.

  1. Yeah saw that.

Seriously depressing. Contrary to what some clueless animal behaviorists say – dogs can be very emotional, especially about their humans.

  2. It’s on Yahoo as: Loyal dog won’t leave fallen Navy SEAL.

It’s sad because the dog probably will never be the same. Once a dog loses it’s master, the dog really never is the same.

Dogs are truly the most loyal friends that man has.

Even cats get this way, too — but not as often.

  3. I was watching an old childrens movie the other night on Turner. It was a color film from 1940 called THE BLUE BIRD. Here some trees wanted to avenge themselves at the expense of a little boy. First they tried to gain his trust, but the dog (actually a person in a costume) would have none of it. The master turned on his faithful companion, and before having him tied to a tree, hit him.

The dog fawned at the young masters feet.

“Why do you do this?” asked the young master?

Replied the Dog: “You struck me, therefore I must kiss you.”

O/T: One the link was a smaller link about a cat striking an alligator…
