  1. It looks like a remake of Tuskegee Airmen with pretty much the same actors and unimpressive CGI.

Mediocre sums up my impression of the trailer.

  2. This looks awesome. I can hardly wait.

  3. Scott,

It’s about time this tale got told with the scope that brings it home. The “Tuskegee Airman” TV movie did what it could with what it had. But showing multiple cuts of a handful of P-51s all zooming around a single B-17 just doesn’t do justice to what real bomber streams looked like.

Yeah, there’s already the whining about improper markings and so on.

The power of the tale will be the thing and I’m much looking forward to this one.

    • > TV movie did what it could with what it had.

I recall it being a good HBO movie, but with some bizarre aspects. For starters, the pilots were doing their thing, when all of a sudden they were presented with the latest and greatest… the P-51D Mustang. The then proceeded to celebrate that. But it was a bit of a surprise, since that’s what they’d been flying around in anyway. I gather that in reality they’d been tooling around in B models, and finally got the D model… but the movie makers didn’t have any B’s, so they just went with D’s all around. Shrug.

      • In this one, it looks like they go straight from P-40’s to P-51D’s, with no P-39’s or P-47’s in between.

  4. looks like it would be a great movie….too bad they couldn’t have included a few of the Me-163s as
well because those were used on several occasions as well but I really don’t know what theatres
of war or locations is what I am trying to say but probably were not used where this movie was supposed to take place.

    • The Me-163’s never did appear in great numbers, and were of course limited to the defense of just a few cities, unlike the Bf-109’s and Me-262’s.
They could have thrown in some FW-190’s though, as those were widely used.
My dad’s B-24 unit really did fear one particular aircraft though, that being the Me-410…the squadron’s first question on learning their intended target for a mission was to ask if there were any Me-410’s stationed there.
I don’t know if it was the 50 mm nose cannon or 210 mm underwing rockets they feared, but the aircraft apparently made a really negative impression on them.

  5. One thing is missing… contrails.
The film shows the B-17’s flying in skies with clouds both above and below them, so I assume there should be some contrails around, like in this classic photo:

What I’m waiting for is the patented leaden Lucas dialog, which should be a hoot.

  6. I must see this Movie !

I hope the Movie show the famous airbattle around the Hill of Asch aka “the Legend of Y-29”
were a P-51D Mustang is hit and burning, but pilot stay in air and
start to chase the Me109 who hit him and shot it down!

by the way the Pilot and his P-51D landed save after that
