You know, some things probably should either not be done live, or with a bit more practice beforehand. Stuff like flying a water-shooting “jetpack” while trying to be too cute by half.

At least we learn that if you accidentally hit the kill switch and fall directly into the ocean, the jetpack still works and you can fly out again.

  1. The news folks want to show off their expensive, though rarely-needed, live remote broadcast capability. They’ve so over-used it that when I see a “live action broadcast” on the news, I just assume it’s nothing urgent, and tune it out.

  2. What I want to know is, can you go higher than the intake tube is long??

    • Possibly. If you launch upwards at full thrust, you’ll hit the end of the line at some velocity. Whether or not you’ll have enough momentum to actually yank the floating power system (basically a miniature jetski , pumping water up the hose at high pressure) out of the water, I can’t say. But I suspect it would not be a recommended procedure.

      • It would be interesting if you ripped the water hose clean off the intake unit.
        Does the backpack have some sort of buoyancy chambers in it to keep it from dragging you right on down with it as it sinks?

    • Yes you can…for a half second or so. 😀
      “Intake’s in the water;
      Shark’s in the water;
      Shark’s in the intake;
      Man’s in the water;
      Man’s in the shark.”
      Nutty as this thing seems, it might actually have some practical uses, like dropping a life preserver or rescue collar with a rope on it to a person drowning, or shipwreck survivors in rough seas, and towing them to shore or to a ship.
      I could picture it being used by lifeguards on large beaches or on small non-helicopter equipped Navy ships for man-overboard situations.

  3. They wouldn’t have told him to hit the kill switch for the sake of making the video funny, do you think?
    Nah, not Fox…no shenanigans there.

    • Jesus, paranoid much? A funny goof on a local news show becomes Proof Of The Sinister Fox Agenda? Try a vacation on Earth sometime.
