It’s a bit distressing that “The Rocketeer”  was released TWENTY years ago. Damn, I’m old.

  1. Way too expensive, but they would be a ball to have:

Although everyone calls it a rocket belt in the movie, from the way it’s shown working it’s a jet engine with twin combustion chambers and the compressor mounted between them.

  2. No gays. No blacks. No differently-abled people. Fighting crime, spies is elitist and typical of imposed white cultural and political structures. “Bad guys” not given equal opportunity to present point of view. Depiction of gratuitous use of carbon/greenhouse gas-emitting fossil fuels. 1930s/1940s setting glamorizes white/male/heterosexual privilege era, sanitized of the suffering of historically disadvantaged groups. Positive depiction of “entrepreneurial” capitalist system without presenting the concomitant suffering of exploited working, non-white, and/or female classes. Male child depicted as playing with typically action-oriented toys instead of in nurture-based play. Rescue of child indicates heterosexist emphasis on breeding as a positive good. Depiction of technology as “beneficial” typical of phallocentric/exploiter value structures. Violence depicted as a solution to conflict.

    Did I mention no gays?

    • If you wanted it, you could have one *hell* of a future at the university of your choice.

    • I never could understand why the Zeppelin was named the “Luxembourg”‘ rather than say the “Brandenburg”.
And about that “no gay” part…you did notice that Neville Sinclair seemed to have a lot of female clothes hanging up in his closet that he could give to Jenny to wear. 😀

  3. I had forgotten how fun that movie was.

  4. I’d watch it…Oh BTW Scott, if you sold a reproduction of the blueprint for the Cirrus X-3 pack (as seen in the movie), I’d snap it up in a heatbeat.

    • > I’d snap it up in a heatbeat.

While I’m *sure* I don’t know what a “heatbeat” is, I’m also incredibly leery of selling reproductions of Disney stuff. The Mickey Mouse Assault Lawyers are, I understand, quite vicious. Them and the Lucasfiulm Stormlawyers are pretty diligent and quite well armed.

      • James has a good idea. I’d buy a set of the blueprints, too. But I do understand why you’re wary. I’m not sure if Disney still has the rights to the Rocketeer or if they’ve reverted back to the original creators.

The jet pack was a wonderful idea though.
