A Rockwell illustration showing an almost-but-not-quite-final Space Shuttle design. The only obvious major difference between this design and actual Shuttle is the rounded dome on the nose of the ET. This *may* have been a cover over a de-orbit solid rocket motor, but if so it was a small one. Other changes include differences in the booster sep motors; this painting shows four nose BSMs in a straight vertical line and four tail BSMs in a straight vertical line. As built, the forward BSMs were in a 2X2 square array, while the at BSMs were arrayed around the nozzle. Some minor difference in thermal tile pattern on the forward fuselage of the Orbiter.

The full-rez version has been made available for $10-level patrons at the APR Patreon.

Just released today… an official “History of the Manned Orbital Laboratory” by Carl Berger of the MOL Program Office, 1970. This originally Top Secret history still has a number of blacked-out text redactions and, sadly, no illustrations in its 356 pages. I’ve only skimmed through it, but it looks to be an interesting read.

Trying again to get some feedback on my short story “Deadliest Catch.” I sent it to three people a month and a half ago but only got feedback from one. So if there are two of y’all who would like to read it *and* provide (via email) some considered feedback/criticism, as well as post a brief note in the comments here letting the world know whether or not you liked it, please say so in the comments. First two commenters will be emailed the story via the email address attached to the Disqus comment.

Thanks!

This really does look like the place got nuked.

Photos of the Aftermath of the Massive Explosions in Tianjin, China

Especially impressive are the hundreds of cars awaiting shipment that were set on fire and then stomped from above, turning them into scorched garbage (they’re called Volkswagens, but I don’t think they are… probably a local Chinese brand). And the masses of shipping containers that were stove in and tossed into a pile.

There’s something here that just seems a little odd.  Former Vermont Governor and Democrat Party shill Howard Dean was recently interviewed and said this:

The problem is that Joe Biden, is a very good guy, and probably has no appeal whatsoever to people under 35. People under 35 elected Barack Obama President of the United States. That is a key part of the Democratic coalition…

OK, sure, there’s probably some sense here. Biden is 72; probably kinda hard to relate to The Kids These Days. But then Dean goes on:

So I think it makes sense to have a candidate, and I think Hillary is one, I think Bernie is another who really can turn on the under 35 set. And I think that would be a problem for Joe. So you know, he’s served us incredibly well, I just think that it is probably too late for that.

Ummm. Bernie Sanders is 73. Hillary Clinton is 67.

Yeah, the Democrats are truly the party of the young folks this go-around.

As a side-point… Ronald Reagan is often noted for having been an Old Guy. When elected he was 69. Hillary, if she’s elected, will be only a year or so younger than Reagan was; Sanders would be five years older.
