Reading the description, the guy running this petition seems to be a real piece of work… a standard conspiracy theory nut, going on about the Illuminati and whatnot. Even so, this is a depressingly enlightening  bit of video, showing people happily choosing to sign a BS petition to give away their rights… even after being told that the criminals will keep *their* guns. One wonders what sort of overlap there is between these petition signers and “Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide” petition signers.

Boston blows up. One of the most toxic substances known to man gets mailed hither and yon. The President turned into a whiny little beeyotch on live TV because his power grab got denied. And now a fertilizer plant near Waco, Texas, goes KERBLAM.

Two articles that tell stories worth reading:

These Soldiers Did the Boston Marathon Wearing 40-Pound Packs. Then They Helped Save Lives.

The soldiers you saw in the bomb-blast video tearing down the scaffolding to gain access to the victims? Yeah. They’d just run the marathon wearing fully loaded pack (“Tough Ruck”). Loaded, as it turns out, with water and first aid supplies.

And…

The Man in the Cowboy Hat: Meet Carlos Arredondo, a Hero of the Boston Bombings

Mr. Arredondo is the guy in the photo I posted yesterday wearing the cowboy hat. He has one convoluted story… originally an illegal immigrant from Costa Rica, one of his sons died in Iraq in 2004 (and his other son commited suicide in 2011). Mr. Arredondo was at the race to support a runner who had dedicated his race to his son, and is wearing a Tough Ruck shirt.

You can see both the soldiers and Mr. Arredondo in this video pulling scaffolding off victims (Arredondo at about the 2 minute mark:)

As for the guy in the wheelchair: his family has gone public. His name is Jeff Bauman, he’s in stable condition, and there is a fund drive underway. Facebook  GoFundMe

CNN just reported that ricin was mailed to a US Senate office. EDIT: Senator Wicker, R, Mississippi.

Al Queda has suggested using ricin. And the “pressure cooker bomb” is a jihadi specialty. So I’m drifting away from the “lone nut” hypothesis. EDIT: might be a suspect in custody, CNN claims he’s prolific letter-writer. Sorta back to “lone nut,” maybe.

The B-58 Hustler supersonic bomber was designed alongside its weapon. Unlike many bombers which were designed as generalized “trucks,” which could haul any of a number of different weapons, the B-58 was designed to carry a single specific payload, a large, sleek  underslung pod. The MB-1 pod was much longer than the thermonuclear weapon it held; the extra volume contained fuel used to get to the target. The idea was a clever on, but the MB-1 was plagued with fuel leaking from the tanks into the weapon bay. The MB-1 was eventually replaced with a two Component Pod, which have a narrow weapon pod semi-submerged within a larger fuel pod, which could be jettisoned separately. A proposed version of the MB-1 would have had a rocket engine in the tail of the pod, turning it into a standoff weapon (but reducing the range of the B-58).

Last I’ve hear, nobody knows a frackin’ thing for certain about who bombed Boston or why. I’ve heard: Muslims, anti-tax protestors, the IRA, Occupiers, gun control opponents, gun control advocates, everything. Until there’s something factual, I got little to say.

I will, however, point out this guy:

defiance

I know nothing of him save what you can see in the photo (and in the much higher rez photos HERE). I don’t know how he’s doing. But if Boston wanted an image to rally around… I can hardly think of anything better. Blown up and battered, he looks like defiance and determination personified.

UPDATE: There is a photo floating around that is one of the most horrific things I’ve ever seen. As I write this, three people are dead… it would not surprise me to find that the subject of the photo in question is now one of those three. I will not post the complete photo, though if you *must* see it, it’s here: http://i.imgur.com/NekrRnX.jpg (trust me, you’ll be happier not seeing the whole thing). But I will post this crop showing the three people helping the victim:

determination

These three folk deserve praise for what they’re doing; the image itself deserves praise for the sense of determination it conveys.

Some people are trying to make some amendments to the gun control/background check/gun show loophole/pre-confiscation legislation:

Could national reciprocity of concealed-carry permits kill the gun bill?

In short, there are efforts underway to insert national reciprocity into the gun control bill. This would allow a holder of a valid state concealed carry license to carry their weapon concealed anywhere they go within the United States. You know, kinda like how if you have a drivers license in, say, Nevada and you go to California for a few days, you don’t need to get a California drivers license. or how if you are married in Massachusetts, you are still married if you go to Alabama.

But rely on New York Senator Chuck Schumer to go bugnuts over the idea:

“Somebody could come from Wyoming to the big cities of New York or New Haven or Bridgeport and carry a concealed weapon, which is so against our way of life and the needs here in New York.”

Read that one more time. Let it sink in.

Not only is it the very pinnacle of hypocrisy coming from someone so determined to make the laws of his uncivilized urban dystopias the laws of the land as a whole (bans on “assault weapons” and standard capacity magazines is against the way of life of a whole lot of places that aren’t the big cities of New York), there is an implicit insult against the honor of people from Wyoming.

If Schumer was honest (HA!), he’d be *begging* for concealed carriers from Wyoming to replace the relatively violent thugs who must make up his constituency.
