Mentioned yesterday was one of the Left’s newest darlings, George Ciccariello-Maher, a guy who thinks that “white genocide” is just a peachy-keen idea. As a phrase, “white genocide” is something I’ve not thought about too much or too often, but apparently it is popular with both the far left and the far “white nationalists.”

The far left thinks of “white genocide” as a mythological concept, something that isn’t happening. The white nationalists think “white genocide” is happening, but rather than whites being rounded up and executed, it’s white people being bred out of existence by brown people.

Both groups are in error.

More blather after the break.

Ah, universities. Where young adults can go to get wholly screwed up by people who are already wholly screwed up. Witness assistant professor of history at Drexel university George Ciccariello-Maher, a self-described Communist, who recently tweeted:

“All I Want for Christmas is White Genocide.”

Now, it turns out that this was a bit much even for a modern American university, so Drexel just came down with a horrifyingly harsh response: a strongly worded letter. As a result, George Ciccariello-Maher has claimed that his tweet was “satire,” that “white genocide” is not a real thing and that only white supremacists talk about it. The Snopes page on this issue covers his response to the Drexel rebuke in some depth, leaving one with the impression that, just perhaps, George Ciccariello-Maher really is just bad at satire.

However, the Internet has a memory:

Drexel Professor Has A History Of Hating White People And Wishing For Their Genocide

We can read some of George Ciccariello-Maher’s previous statements, such as:

To clarify: when the whites were massacred during the Haitian Revolution, that was a good thing indeed.” Note: some 4,000 white folks in Haiti were ethnically cleansed/genocided in Haiti in the 1804 revolution.

“Yacub made a lot of white folks.” Note: Yacub is the fictional evil scientist who created white people in the back story of the Nation of Islam’s fictional theology.

And of course, “Abolish the White Race,” backed up with his more recent statement of “White isn’t a race.”

Obviously there are some odd contradictions here. A guy who claims that “white genocide” is a myth, yet praises an actual historical incident of it. He wants to abolish a race he then claims doesn’t exist. On one level, you might think we’re dealing with cognitive dissonance. But there is another explanation, one that answers the issue more accurately, I believe. From his recent response to Drexel’s reprimand, he says:

“White supremacy is on the rise, and we must fight it by any means.”

Whether “white supremacy” is on the rise can be debated. But once you say that you “must fight it by any means,” you open the door to, of course, any means. Including lying. So, sometime in the past he told what he saw as the truth: that white people (of which he is one) should be exterminated. Now that he has been called out on it, and his career *perhaps* put in some jeopardy (most universities supposedly officially take a dim view of calling for genocide and such), he’s saying “just kidding.”

So is “white supremacy” on the rise? I dunno. But I can be fairly certain of this: people like George Ciccariello-Maher saying that whites should be exterminated… well, that’s not exactly going to drive people away from white nationalism. One wonders if perhaps, just barely perhaps, George Ciccariello-Maher and his ilk are agents of the American Nazi party or some such.

It’s an old, old  complaint that MTV is no longer what it was. Of course, in the Old Days – you know, back when I was a kid and Things Were Awesome – MTV was all about the music videos… and in the years since it has stopped being about music videos. it became about reality shows and game shows and… well, I don;t really know, since I don’t watch MTV anymore.

Like most media outlets, MTV has blursted forth onto Teh Internets with their own little videos and such. And here is where MTV seems to have really gone off the rails. They seem to have become the “white people suck” network. I don’t know if this is because MTV’s leadership actually believes that white people need to be taken down a peg or three, or if they’ve simply made the business decision to suck up to those sweet, sweet social justice warrior dollars, but the end result is the same. They keep cranking out videos that smugly proclaim that anyone who doesn’t agree with this or that SJW position is an Evil Alt-Right White Supremacist.

They recently vomited forth one of their little efforts that was *so* insipidly racist that MTV actually yanked it off YouTube after it received virtually universal negative response. Fortunately, a number of people downloaded the video before MTV deleted it, and then they made mocking reaction videos about it. They make for decent entertainment… something that MTV seems to have forgotten how to accomplish.

Note that the full array of Anglo-Saxon colorful metaphors is on display in these videos. So, NSFW, I guess.

… the dumbest thing you’ll read today.

4 Reasons Demanding ‘Objectivity’ in Social Justice Debates Can Be Oppressive

No, really, the author is serious.

1. Often, Those Who Seem ‘Objective’ Are Actually Just Privileged

2. Everyone Speaks From a Social Position and Has Biases

3. Striving Towards ‘Objectivity’ Is Used to Justify Tone-Policing

And the piece de resistance, the coop de Gracie…

4. Sometimes Emotions Are Just as Important as Facts

Ta-da…

Basically, this mental giants position is that since some people promptly lose their co0ol when their world views are challenged… their world views should not *be* challenged, and losing ones cool is a valid form of debate-winning. Behold:

We need to understand that feelings, lived experiences, and psychology are absolutely important in activism and social justice. After all, social justice is about human experiences. It’s absurd – violent, even – to discuss human experiences while leaving out such an important part of our humanity.

It’s “violent” to discuss experiences rationally.

Well, maybe it’s time to play that game. Clearly the recent election has demonstrated that there is a hunger for turning the social justice warriors playbook against them… Trump didn’t win by being rational, logical or even what you might call “honest.” Instead he won by being petulant, insulting, snide, irrational, easily offended. In other words… he played the game like a social justice warrior.

So, let’s play that game. Whenever someone throws “check your privilege” at you, just remember: “What you call ‘privilege’ is just me being better than you.” Whenever an SJW calls you cisgendered or heteronormative or some such, just point out, with a scornful look and a wagging finger, “tut-tut, I identify as ‘normal,’ thank you very much.” And, where possible, laugh at them. And accuse them of laughter-shaming if they have a problem with it.

So some lucky schmoes have already seen “Rogue One.” From what I’ve seen, the reviews are pretty positive… mostly. And then there’s this:

“Rogue One” Reviewed: Is It Time to Abandon the “Star Wars” Franchise?

From the title it seems like the reviewer is not going to like “Rogue One.” But then… he starts yapping. And it’s exactly the sort of impenetrable liberal arts word salad that makes you wonder if you are reading parody.

The director of “Rogue One,” Gareth Edwards, has stepped into a mythopoetic stew so half-baked and overcooked, a morass of pre-instantly overanalyzed implications of such shuddering impact to the series’ fundamentalists, that he lumbers through, seemingly stunned or constrained or cautious to the vanishing point of passivity, and lets neither the characters nor the formidable cast of actors nor even the special effects, of which he has previously proved himself to be a master, come anywhere close to life.

And.

So.

On.

Read through it and you get that the reviewer was not a big fan of the flick. Fine. Maybe it stinks. Maybe it’s great, but he’s an outlier. Maybe he’s just not the right audience. Whatever. But when you use gibberish like “corporate Kremlinology” and “There’s none of the Shakespearean space politics, enticingly florid dialogue, or experiential thrills of the best of George Lucas’s “Star Wars” entries (“Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith”),” man, it’s really hard to take you at all seriously. In fact, it’s real easy to see this piece as mocking the reader. And after a political season where politicians thought they would win by insulting large swathes of the voting public, people are getting kinda fed up with that.

It’s difficult to read stuff like this and not conclude that a lot of lefties have lost their damned minds:

Trump’s election stole my desire to look for a partner

Poe’s Law comes into force here as well. It *could* be that the author is a right-winger cranking out fictional BS, simulating the stereotypical loonie leftie. And it could be that this is just an annoyed leftie, pretending to more crazy than she actually feels.

However it works out, it does point out a bug in the human operating system that I think is one of the more dangerous flaws we have: the desire to be seen as a victim.

We see it in several religions: the idea of the “martyr” as the ultimate in virtue. People getting upset about a mythical “war on Christmas” because some bored barista said “happy holidays” rather than “merry Christmas.” Or believing that there’s a “war on Christians” because they are not granted a special position in government-funded organizations like public schools or city council meetings. Or in one particular Religion Of Peace that thinks that it is in a House of War, that the whole world wants to destroy them because they have a monopoly on The Truth.

And of course we see it in the political realm, where a whole lot of people seem to think that armies of Evil Right Wingers are going to come and lock up Teh Gheys or force women into staying home barefoot and pregnant, or that there is a genocidal war by cops against black men. We see it in the faked “hate crimes,” where a people vandalize their own stuff in order to get… what? Sympathy? Funding in a GoFundMe account? Five minutes of fame, even if much of it is ridicule? And even the ridicule plays into the sense of persecution… which is what far too many people seem to thrive on. “I’m persecuted, therefore I’m Special and Important and my opinions carry special importance, and my failures aren’t really *my* failures, but signs of just how important I am that The Man has to put me down.”

Bah.

All I can say about the author of the piece above is that she seems… a little excitable. She mentions that she was dating someone when the election happened and that she halted the process when her candidate didn’t win.I imagine the feller was a little confuzzled about what just happened. But with any luck, that guy will read this essay and realize “Wow, did I ever dodge a bullet here.” And then he will give a little smile of relief like Billy/William/Man In Black/Gunman/Best Damn Character On TV here did in the season finale of “Westworld.”

billy-says-hooray

Sadly, while Westworld has been picked up for a second season, it apparently won’t air until 2018. Feh. This is an outrage!
