There are people who suck just about everywhere. And these people seem to love to exercise their vileness on cats… most likely because cats are not only weak and vulnerable compared to humans, they also have distinct personalities, and probably most importantly because they are loved by other humans. This means that harming the cat also harms some humans. Often, *many* humans. Somebody is getting off on this. Somebody who should be found, tried, convicted and then shoved through the nearest convenient stargate.

The news story (which took place distressing close to where I live) is beyond the “Continue Reading,” because even the headline might be a bit disturbing for those who don’t want to read about such things. Included within the body of the linked news article is a news story from a dozen years ago that set me off watching it.

There is a GoFundMe that has been set up to raise funds for a reward to find whoever’s responsible. Hopefully local security cameras caught something.

This is one of the reasons why my cats are indoor cats. The world is dangerous enough for cats without throwing in actual monsters.

A rare bit of good news here on Twenty-Twenty Part Two: This Time It’s Personal.

Little feller seems to be happy and healthy, if a bit patchy. I have high hopes that the two animals responsible for the attack on him never again feel a moment anywhere near as joyful as this little guy right here is having. Sadly, I fully expect they’ll be released to wreak havoc upon society again and again.

No joke about “disturbing video:”

Disturbing Video: China Is Taking Cats for Extermination Due to COVID — Dogs Too

Think twice before clicking. Scenes of members of Team Humanity being tortured and killed on an industrial scale by humans. As much as many of use *hate* the little monsters responsible for the assault on Buddy The Cat… here’s an entire government that deserves that ire.

Remember the old wisdom about “if someone will do that to an animal, they’ll do that to a human?” Yeah, well… these are ChiComs. They’ve *already* done this to tens of millions of humans, so this is hardly surprising. But it’s still… hmmm.

Once again: humans at our worst are a Cosmic Horror to animals, especially those who rely on us.

Well. One more thing to add to The List.

Ukrainian zoo says it may have to euthanize big cats, bears after enclosures destroyed

“Yesterday and today [Feldman Ecopark] was again subjected to massive shelling and bombardment. Infrastructure destroyed, enclosures destroyed,” zoo founder Alexander Feldman said in a statement. “The biggest problem is large predators.”

“Maybe we will save baby jaguars, baby panthers, but all adult animals will probably be liquidated,” Feldman said.

The zoo, located in Kharviv, said that its specialists are trying to place the animals in temporary housing, noting this is the only option they have outside of euthanizing bears, lions and tigers.

Understandable but… dayum. I am reminded, unhappily, of Marjan the Kabul Zoo lion. That story *still* pisses me off to no end, twenty years later. I had the great misfortune of first reading about Marjan and seeing photos of while at work back then. Uuuuuugh.

Even for cats as massive and majestic as lions, for animals as powerful as bears… humans waging war has to be a cosmic horror. Their experience of such things would be like the Greek gods warring with the Hindu gods would be on primitive Man.

This video shows the place in October of last year. The Feldman Ecopark Zoo was certainly no San Diego Zoo, but it seemed like it was a nice place, with what appears to have been well designed, well built and well maintained enclosures with healthy animals given a good amount of space. Until Putins goons decided to “deNazify” it.

Apparently there is *some* effort to evacuate some of the big cats:

In a world filled with horrors like Russia/Ukraine, rapes, theft, murder and Star Trek Discovery, sometimes there’s good news… even if the good news is news only because it’s growing out of evil behavior.

‘Buddy,’ the cat viciously attacked on video outside of Philadelphia continues recovery, maybe finds a forever home: reports

… the vet who treated buddy, along with her husband, will serve as his foster home as he continues to recover from his injuries. And, that foster home could very well turn into a forever home for “Buddy,” because they — the couple did not want their names to be released to the public — have said they want to adopt him.

Still no word about the identities and proper defenestrations of the “kids” responsible for this story.

The video in this news piece has it all:

A month ago I mentioned (I think… that was a lifetime ago) that I thought it odd how tolerant the Russian soldiers were of Ukrainian civilian protestors. That has clearly come to an end. With Russian military defeats, failures and frustrations, the soldiers are falling back on old school barbarism… rape and murder on a virtually industrial scale. Once again, reality teaches us that people who screech about Nazis are not to be trusted… they stared into the abyss and the abyss didn’t just stare back, it moved in and set up shop.

Some good news.

Buddy the cat officially upgraded to stable condition

Still no identification of the two responsible. This is likely due to them being juveniles, what with the judicial system erroneously believing that there’s some fundamental shift that happens when someone magically flips from “child” to “adult.” Even if these people cannot be help to account by the legal system, I would think it advisable for the public to be made aware of who they are so as to keep their pets, children and *jobs* away from them.

Once they are pout of whatever slap-on-the-wrist imprisonment they’ll get, they should be strongly encouraged to travel the world and never come back.

The two responsible for the mauling of Buddy the cat have turned themselves in:

12-year-old, 17-year-old turn themselves in to authorities following vicious attack on Buddy the cat

Sadly the two have not been identified because they are juveniles, which also means that they will very likely get a slap on the wrist at best. They came in to the SPCA with “a parent.” This probably means they’re brothers. And it raises the question “why not both parents.”

Interestingly, if you let the video embedded in the above link play, it cycles through a number of stories, including one about a skunk. Here, some people saw a skunk with a peanut butter jar stuck on its head roaming randomly in a panic; they called animal control who successfully got the jar off its head with nobody getting injured or sprayed. Ta-da. A more opposite sort of story would be hard to immediately invent…here, an animal that, unlike a cat, is generally *disliked*, finds itself in trouble and humans actually give a damn and go to some effort to provide aid to the animal. Granted, it’s not detangling a sharktopus from radioactive razorwire, but still… compared to two monsters taking joy in the destruction of a loved, harmless animal? It’s fricken’ Nobel material.

And unrelated to cats and critters, but related to Philadelphia:

Family members identify teen gravely injured after shooting in Wissinoming

The teen is 15, and by “gravely injured” they mean “brain dead, will die in a day or so.” Apparently he was merely a bystander to some sort of altercation that led to shots fired. Police think it might have something to do with an attempted robbery around the corner.

Philadelphia sounds like a nice place to stay the hell away from.
