Watch this:

Short form: during Viet Nam, a project was instituted to send low-IQ soldiers through training and then into combat. The idea seemed to be that by training them and getting them experience, they’d come home with more useful skills and be less of a burden on society. The actual result was that a lot of them seemed to be untrainable for even the most basic tasks; they sucked up resources that could have been better used elsewhere; they were a discipline nightmare; and they got killed at three times the rate of non-morons. Thus, the project was considered a failure.

Consider this, though: the military tends to make a big deal about how the troops are America’s Best And Brightest. Which means that when the fighting starts, the Best And Brightest End Of The Gene Pool gets drained, while the dummies stay home and reproduce. How is this a good thing?

Further: an argument can be made not to send low IQ soldiers because they’re too dumb to really understand what’s going on. But doesn’t that imply that the other soldiers *are* smart enough to understand what’s going on and fully comprehend the horror of the situation they’re in? Couldn’t an argument be made that you shouldn’t send into harms way those who have the brainpower to truly understand the nightmare they’re in?

Obviously soldiers too dumb to know how to operate a rifle or who to aim it at are unlikely to be of much use in combat; they are quite likely to be a detriment. But if there is a war big enough to merit a draft, does being dumb really earn you a ticket out of service? Perhaps the thing to do would be to use such troops as *actual* cannon fodder. Dump them behind enemy lines with a basic set of tools and instructions to just cause havoc. If they get killed… well, that’s a soldiers lot. If they get captured, the enemy will have one hell of a time trying to interrogate them, and will (depending on the enemy) have to devote their own troops and resources to imprisoning them. But between the time they get dropped off and they get killed or captured, they could be wandering the enemies streets stealing their stuff and setting their stuff on fire and trying to convince the locals to vote for Bernie.

As always, Prager U is confounding. Their videos on religion and science are often the worst form of dreck, but their videos on history and politics are usually spot-on. The one below explains what set “The West” apart from the rest of the world. Why, starting about the 16th century, did western Europeans and their descendants begin to pull away from the rest of the planet in terms of standard of living, wealth, power? The people who hate the west and westerners claim it was because of slavery, war and imperialism, conveniently forgetting that slavery, war and imperialism are *universals.* Wherever westerners went, they encountered empires that enslaved and waged war. The Stanford historian Niall Ferguson here comes to much the same conclusion I long ago did, though he breaks it down to six points, where I break it down to three:

1: Science. The scientific method, the most powerful tool to understand the world as it actually is, was developed and perfected in western Europe.

2: Capitalism. If you want wealth generation, nothing  comes close to capitalism. After centuries of systems such as mercantilism, actual capitalism broke out in western countries and colonies, and they started getting stinkin’ rich.

3: Democracy. Allowing people a say in how their lives are lived and governed turns out to be a dandy way to let people actually be happy about their lives. Coupled with capitalism, democracy lets people and populations decide to improve their lot; add science into the mix, and now the people have the *tools* to materially improve their lives.

One can argue about *why* western Europeans developed these three systems , and the rest of the world did not (or at least did not develop all three at the same time). But one cannot honestly argue that they weren’t the drivers of Western Civilization Exceptionalism. Science, Capitalism and Democracy are necessary and sufficient for massive progress. This has been proven in the 20th century: civilizations that had lived in feudal muck and mire for millenia without these three either adopted them or had them forced onto them, and shot forward. Those nations that did not adopt these, or outright rejected one or more of them, stayed backwards, surviving – if they did – on pure nastiness.

“Star Wars: Resistance” is an animated Star Wars series currently in its second – and last – season on Disney. I’ve found it to be at best “meh.” A lot of that is due to the target audience… it is clearly meant to be a kids show, with a lot of pratfalls, slapstick humor, simplistic characters and storytelling, etc. And a lot of the problem is due to the timeframe: it’s set at the time of “The Force Awakens,” which automatically kinda makes it suck. The most grating aspect of the show is the main character, one Kazuta Xiono, who is portrayed as someone who in a better series would be the comic relief. He’s a clumsy dumbass who is difficult to take at all seriously.

But then…

Which does kinda shift my opinion of the character. In a franchise that has repeatedly depended on space wizards and my least favorite trope of all time, “Chosen Ones,” Kaz is a guy with no force-powers whatsoever who succeeds by the fact that he has learned skills through hard work and training. Compared to MaRey Sue, who is the Bestest Jedi EVAR without needing a moments effort to train or learn, Kaz is freakin’ Shakespearean in his quality.

Two “house of worship” attempted massacres in as many days. The second time, a schmuck with a shotgun tries to take out a church in Texas. And this time, he got about five seconds into doing his thing when *he* got shot. The video makes for interesting viewing if you’re into that sort of thing… and it makes for an *impressive* bit of marksmanship, as one guy caps the badguy in the noggin with a single shot from across the room after a fast draw. The *first* guy to get shot  telegraphed his draw, which is probably why he got shot. If you don’t like seeing random churchgoers getting shot, this is not a video to watch. If you want to see villains getting shot, then this is a video to watch. If you want to learn what to do and not to do, then this should prove helpful. An important lesson here: a slow draw, if someone is pointing a shotgun at you, will get you shot first. Learn to draw fast and shoot accurately… or keep your weapon out of sight. I am all in favor of open carry for those who want to, but this video points out the problem of letting badguys know that you are armed: they’ll shoot you first.

No info as yet about the who/why of the shooter. However, we do know this: Presidential Candidate Gropey Joe Biden would, had he had his way, have had this incident be a lot bloodier:

Meh.

Watching Millenials/Gen Zers ripping on Boomers? Meh. We were doing that before you brats were born. Didn’t get us nuthin’.

Foamy here is right: the things that the more militant Millenials are cheesed off at the Boomers for are the things that the Boomers actually shared with the Millenials, and actually got: the friggen’ hippies gained political power and began enacting their utopian policies, and now that the check is coming due for decades of Boomer socialism and nanny statism it’s falling on Millenial socialists to pay it.

If you *ever* watch television, chances are real good you’ve seen commercials for those “Shen Yun” live dancing performances. From time to time the advertisements seem to be all over the place… according to Google they hit Salt Lake city in 2018 and 2019, and are due back in early 2020, before which there will be a wall-to-wall local advertising blitz. Beyond noting the excessive advertising, I’ve not really paid much attention to Shen Yun because… well, why would I? I can think of a few “entertainment options” more painful than “traditional Chinese dancing” (“A Night with Yoko Ono” springs to mind), but not a *lot* of them. I’ve no interest in *western* dancing shows or even western Opera, so I sure as hell don’t want to subject myself to weirder, lower-quality imports. So, I’ve never given Shen Yun any further thought.

Turns out it’s worth paying attention to. Not because it’s necessarily any good, but because it is a part of the propaganda arm of the Falun Gung cult. It’s not even “Chinese” as such, since the head office is (of course) in New York City, and the “traditional Chinese dancing” is about as authentically traditional as Disney’s Mulan. As such, Americans should avoid it. Sure, it’s great doing things that annoy the communist Chinese government, but a cult is a cult, whether it’s Falun Gong or Scientology or the Klan or the Hare Krishnas or the Transcendental Meditation weirdos or the Discovery Institute or PETA or  some flying saucer religion or the Democratic Socialists. Such things are just plain unhealthy.

For all I know, the cultish nature of these Leapin’ Chinese Shows is common knowledge that I’ve some how missed (looking up “Shen Yun” and “cult” on google, there’s certainly a whole lot out there). But if not… here ya go. If your significant other starts harping on you to go to one of these things, state that as a proud American you’ll have nothing to do with this nonsensical nonsense.

Here’s an interesting write-up about it:

Stepping Into the Uncanny, Unsettling World of Shen Yun

At some point in the show, which sounds like the sort of flashy, noisy pap that art snobs would wet themselves over in order to earn themselves a few Diversity Points, the narrator or whatever comes out and says:

“We follow Dafa, the Great Way,” he began, singing about a Creator who saved mankind and made the world anew. “Atheism and evolution are deadly ideas. Modern trends destroy what makes us human,” he sang.

ᛖᚪᛏ ᛗᚤ ᚪᛋᛋ, Shen Yun.
