There are few enough stories of new government initiatives actually succeeding in doign anythign useful. Look at the SLS, for instance,  But here, at last, is a project that has not only succeeded, it should be emulated:

Most Interior Employees Reject Mandatory Reassignments, Secretary Says

The Bureau of Land Management, which deals almost exclusively with land issues in western states, wisely is moving form Washington D.C. to Grand Junction, Colorado. Given that the only reason to be in D.C. is to be near other government agencies, and nobody *needs* to be near other government agencies to do their jobs (since we have these things called telephones, fax machines, email video conferencing, etc.), moving to where the job is actually relevant makes all kinds of sense. And so in November 2019 173 employees were told that their jobs were moving and to reply by December if they were moving with them. As of December, about 80 had replied in the affirmative. With luck, the other 93 or so have been given the opportunity to explore new career opportunities.

And here’s the best bit:

(Interior Secretary David ) Bernhardt told lawmakers he has no concerns about unfilled positions, saying BLM is hiring at the local level to backfill any vacancies.

Good. Who would be best to understand the nature of BLM issues than someone from western states?

With the Wuhan Flu force-demonstrating the utility of telecommunications and also the need for decentralizing and de-densifying governmental systems, the BLM bailing from D.C. should be only the first in the scattering of the Fed Guv. NASA headquarters? Why not Montana? Social Security headquarters? Try Nashville. Or maybe Sioux City. Leave D.C. for just four things:

1: White House

2: Congress

3: Supreme Court

4: Museums

Spread the actual governmental apparatus around the whole country. This would play merry hell with lobbying… which would be a *good* thing.

NASA’s SLS Moon rocket is 2 years behind and billions over budget, internal report finds

Rocket surgery is hard. But for frak’s sake, it’s not *that* hard. NASA oversaw the development of the rough equivalent of the SLS in the form of the Saturn V fifty-five friggen’ years ago, on a shorter timescale and I believe at lower cost… and that was starting with prit near *nothing.* SpaceX has spent far less and achieved far more, and despite a lot of setbacks lately, I still wouldn’t put it past SpaceX to get an SLS-beater into the air before SLS.

I wonder what SpaceX could do with two billion dollars and two years. Hell, I wonder what *I* could do with that.

Hmm.

Who would I talk to about getting estimates for a mild steel circular plate twenty meters or so in diameter?

Ladies and gentlemen, the possible next President of the United States:

Biden, accused of wanting to end 2nd Amendment, responds: “You’re full of sh**”

“This is not OK, alright?” the man said, to which Biden replied, “Don’t tell me that, pal, or I’m going to go out and slap you in the face.”

“You’re working for me, man!” the worker said.

“I’m not working for you,” Biden said. “Don’t be such a horse’s ass.”

He wants to make AR-15’s as illegal to own as machine guns. And AR-14’s as well. And you shouldn’t be allowed to own 100 bullets if I’m hearing him right. And if you say he wants to take our guns, why, you’re wrong. Somehow. I’m sure if you are senile enough it makes some sort of sense.

What the frak is it with these jackhole politicians who, on the one hand, say quite clearly that they want to make standard capacity magazines illegal and to ban conventional firearms that millions of people own… and then promptly say that they’re *not* going to take the peoples guns away?

ADDITIONAL: When Beto O’Roarke endorsed Biden, Biden made sure to point out that Beto – who has previously declared his intention to decree tens of millions of Americans overnight felons, eligible for no-knock SWATting raids with doubtless many summary executions – to be his point man on dealing with the “gun problem:”

This video purports to be a rather bold robbery at a drugstore in San Francisco, demonstrating the inevitable results of policies that decriminalize theft.

This is a direct quote from Joe Biden:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created by the you know, you know the thing.”

Huh. Who knew that humanity was created by The Thing?

Woman Brutally Attacked by Somali Refugee Says Authorities Let Him Go Free Because of His 49 IQ

A woman in St. Louis was brutalized by her 15 year old neighbor with a metal rod, after said neighbor had had numerous other run-ins with criminality. The article comes complete with quite a few fairly graphic photos of headwounds… and with this:

“On arrival, we learned from that same patient advocate that Hassan’s IQ is 49,” the post reads. “This makes him incompetent to aid in his own defense, therefore all charges were formally dismissed by the prosecutor, Sakina Ahmad.”

Let that sink in.  Being a dumbass not only lets you off the hook from risking your life for your country, it also seems to let you off the hook from responsibility for attempted murder.

Ahhhhmmmm… what big-brained genius decided that it was a neato-keen idea to insert foreigners with IQs of 49 into American cities? Go peddle stupid somewhere else. We’re all stocked up here.

Actual local news coverage of the situation.

Also, Facebook link with graphic photos and very long discussion of the whole situation after the break:

Biden Says Over 150 Million Americans Killed by Gun Violence Since 2007, Which Would Be Half of U.S. Population

None of the other Dems called him on it to tell him to stop exaggerating by three orders of magnitude.

As an aside, I *really* wanna get me one of these:

Komrad 12- Kalashnikov USA

Something a bit head-scratching about this weapon. It’s a 12 gauge shotgun with a 12.5 inch barrel… but it is *not* an NFA item. (How that can be, when any shotgun with a barrel shorter than 18 inches is supposed to be a “Short Barrel Shotgun” and thus an NFA item requiring a tax stamp and a lot of restrictions, I can’t explain by any logic other than government bureaucratic.  It’s classified as a “Firearm” and not a “Shotgun.”)  But I want one. And listening to the yammering yahoos the Dems want to install as gun-grabber-in-chief, I want one *more.* Anybody got a spare $1050 to toss my way? I promise to say nice things about you at the range.

Berkeley Weeded Out Job Applicants Who Didn’t Propose Specific Plans To Advance Diversity

The University of California rejects outright job applicants – for positions such as teachers – who do not demonstrate not only the right ideology, but the right *vehemence* of ideology. That ideology is *not* “the facts, first and always.”

a pool of 894 candidates was narrowed down to 214 based solely on how convincing their plans to spread diversity were

This is not just for the sciences of course, but every field of study. Every field of study is tainted now. UC would seem to be a bad place to invest in.
