A customer contracted me to build him a 1/24 scale X-20 Dyna Soar display model. Photos below of preliminary castings, produced in the last few days using a silicone mold that turned out to be too thin. There are flaws in the too-thin mold that came through on the cast, but which wouldn’t exist on a second mold which I plan to make. And obviously the ginormous hole in the tail end wouldn’t exist on a finalized model.

The entry shield will be held on with neodymium magnets, and there’ll be a few more details along with some printed goodies (at least one of which should be *really* impressive) as well as a new stand. There will be specially printed markings, and a choice of finishes… ultra-glossy nitrocellulose lacquer, or satin nitrocellulose lacquer.

The new mold will require that I buy $500 worth of silicone. Anyone interested in an X-20 of their very own? There won’t be too many of these made. If interested, send me an email:

Again, the model shown here is not a final version, just something of a “prototype.” The actual models will look substantially better.

Note: for those who signed up for the “Up-Ship.com” e-mailing list prior to today, the sale you were emailed about earlier (1/3 off stuff) is about over. For those not signed up, the sale is still about over, but you probably didn’t hear about it…

Since I’m a fantastically nice guy, the sale is HERE. Keep in mind, I’ll post sales like this off and on and give the mailing list a lot more leadtime on ’em, so… sign up!

Sale has ended.

Some books… selling them for $5.00 (plus postage) each. First come, first served… and by this I mean “first to comment, first to get ‘em.” To comment, click on the post title above (“Buy It Now: Pulp!”) and let me know which set(s) you want. US orders will ship via media mail unless other arrangements are made. Paypal prefered.
1) Ira Levin, “The Stepford Wives.” 1972, first edition with dust jacket. In really good condition.
2) Arthur Hailey, “Airport.” 1968, first edition with dust jacket. The jacket is a little rough, but the rest of the book is in really good condition.
3) E. M. Nathanson, “The Dirty Dozen.” 1965, first edition. No dust jacket. Book is in fairly good condition.
4) Payne Harrison, “Storming Intrepid.” 1989, first edition with dust jacket and plastic cover. Former Dugway Proving Ground Library book. Some library stamps and such, but otherwise virtually mint… looks like it was never checked out. I read this about two decades ago, and I recall it being substantially awesome. The Soviets steal a space shuttle; spies, armed spaceplanes and B-2 bombers laying waste. Woo!

The last three are quality reprints of early (1890s to 1940s) sci-fi yarns.

I’m selling off a few of my old Astounding/Analog sci-fi magazines. Dating back to the ’40’s, these are classic “pulp” magazines, meaning the paper was pretty cheap… which means the state of some of these magazines is pretty rough. However, they are all complete with covers. I am selling them in lots.  If you want more than one set, take 10% off for two sets, 15% off for three sets. First come, first served… and by this I mean “first to comment, first to get ’em.” To comment, click on the post title above (“Buy It Now: Pulp!”) and let me know which set(s) you want. US orders will ship via media mail unless other arrangements are made. Paypal prefered.

I have four books I’m selling… two copies of “Across the Space Frontier” and two copies of  “The Conquest of Space.”

“Across the Space Frontier” was published in 1952 and written by Werner von Braun and Willy Ley and illustrated b y the likes of Rolf Klep, Fred Freeman and Chesley Bonestell. It was edited  together from articles in Collier’s magazine and is arguably the source of the American publics 1950’s fascination with the conquest of space. The art within is spectacular.

There are two copies, neither with dust jackets:

“Across A:” Blue cover, has the word “DAMAGED” stamped into the front cover, but seems to be intact except for some minor banging around on the cover and spine. $35.00 plus postage.

Across B:” Gray cover, some tearing on the spine but appears otherwise pretty much intact. Look as good when 60 years old you reach, you will not… $35.00 plus postage.

Also available, two copies of “The Conquest of Space,” written by Willy Ley and illustrated by Chesley Bonestell, published 1949. Broader in scope than “Across,” it is packed with some amazing space art and a lot of interesting designs and ideas. Also undoubtedly played a major role in the 1950’s space-race popularization.

The two copies:

“Conquest A”: First edition, fifth printing. No dust jacket, but otherwise in pretty good shape.  $25.00 plus postage.

“Conquest B:” First edition, Seventh printing. No dust jacket, missing the last page, cover fairly worn. $15.00 plus postage.

If you want one or more of these books, please comment  and state which one(s) you want. First come, first served. Postage in the US will be via media mail (unless something else is requested); airmail elsewhere.

UPDATE: All have been spoken for.

I found a stash of Aerospace Project Review issues from the original run. There may be a few more floating around, but not many and no more have been produced since these came out prior to 2005 or so. I found:

One (1) copy of issue V5N1, covering the Republic XF-103 and the Boeing Advanced Multipurpose Large Launch Vehicle. $10 plus postage.

Nine (9) One copy of issue V5N5, covering the Convair NX-2, the Spacejet concept, the Martin Model 262 VTOL fighter, Mach 3-4 supersonic transport, and a number of high speed rotorcraft. $10 each plus postage.

Seven (7) copy of issue V5N6, covering German WWII space efforts, X-Wing aircraft designs, Boeing WS-110A concepts and Dash-On-Warning designs. $20 each plus postage.

If you are interested in any or all of these, just comment your interest below. If you want 2 issues, it’s 10% off; if you want 3 or more, it’s 15% off.  You can get all of them, if you comment in time…

US orders will ship via Media Mail.

I’m starting up this sale at about 7:30 PM Mountain-Standard-Screw-You-Greenwich-This-Should-Be-The-Baseline-Time. I will let it run for… well, I’m gonna go watch me some TV, then I’ll come back and end it. An hour or two, unless I get distracted by a shiny object or something entertainingly explodey happens on CNN. Why should you care? Because… it’s 50% off.

Here are the restrictions:

  • Minimum order (pre-savings): $30
  • Applies *only* to downloadable products (drawings, documents, APR’s)
  • Does not apply to Reichdreams Dossiers or Unknowns or Packfiles.

The boilerplate:

There has *got* to be a way to do this with Paypal in a way that doesn’t seem lame, but I don’t know what it is. So, here’s what I’ve come up with: order the “coupon” below (a nominal fifty cents), and at least $30 more items… and I will refund you 1/2 of the total. More steps than would seem necessary, but I think it should be workable.

Remember to order the “coupon” and the items all in one order. Otherwise… it won’t work. No “coupon,” no savings…

Sale has ended. Prit near three hours it was up.
