An immediate post-war design, the Dutch Fokker F26 “Phantom” was an early conceptual design for a jetliner. Not intended to be built, but just to test the waters as far as engineering practicality and airline interest, the F26 design was displayed at the Paris Air Show of November, 1946.
Span was to be 18.2 meters, length 15.4 meters, propulsion provided by two underslung Rolls-Royce Nene RB. Mk.41 turbojets, sure to make the ride in the cockpit “whisper-quiet.” Cruise speed was to be 800 kph for a range of 1000 km.

Well, if Douglas had ever done a passenger version of the Skyknight, we now know what it would have looked like.
It looks like a C-46 fuselage.
The F26 had an awesome retro design 🙂

Actually, no, it didn’t. At the time it had an awesome *futuristic* design. It would only be “retro” if it had been designed much later.
Now, for extra fun, try and imagine that some manufacturer got hold of the Fokker F26 design today, and kept the lines but used modern materials, engines and systems. And for extra fun, threw in the duPont DP-2 VTOL engine deflectors into the bargain. Now *that* I’d pay real money to see.
I was going to say “hey, with a thrust deflector and modern engines it could be darn near STOL or even VTOL like the X-14”
darn it you beat me to it…
Inititally I thought C-46, but then B307 front half with engined slung underneath. But the wings and rear fuselage anyone?
I’ve seen wings like that on something before, but can’t for the life of me remember what it was.
Some sort of a primary trainer?
The overall feel of fuselage is certainly the C-46 to me.
The X-14 had the engines in a similar location. The wing looks familiar to me, too, but I can’t recall where I’ve seen it. Perhaps something from Germany during the war?
The wings look something like the McDonnell Banshee:
