So, due to a gastrointestinal issue that precluded several days in an automobile, Mark was not able to go to the midwest, so I let him back out into the world. He disappeared for most of a day… my assumption is, he had a whole lot of territory-marking to do. Today he came back and demonstrated on at least three occasions that one of the new cats is, in fact, female. The photos below show the immediate aftermath of one such encounter. Normally two cats goin’ at it would not inspire to to take mictures… but this was the first time I’d ever seen two cats using the missionary position. Hell, I’ve never even *heard* of that happening.

Enjoy.

  1. You actually saw them mate in that position?
I’ve never heard of that either.
It almost looks like Mark has her down on her back in some sort of dominance display like he’d use on a male cat rival.
Was there another alpha male cat around, and was Mark grabbing that cat’s females back after chasing him off?
In the case of lions, the male lion will do that to a rival male…and then slay any litter that the females gives birth to, to make the the females go back into estrus, ready to bear his offspring.
Another alternative is that the cat on the ground _isn’t a female cat_ and Mark has gotten odd during his confinement. 😀

I saw Mark atop her doing his thing. Whether he was *successfully* doing his thing, I can’t say. He may have been blending mating with dominance, I dunno.

This is a distinct possibility. The scruffy white cat I posted a few days back was a constant companion to the female, but hasn’t been seen since MArk went out.

  3. I get a sneaking suspicion that the scruffy white cat got its furry little ass kicked somewhere off-camera. 😀

  4. […] Remember a few days ago I mentioned that I’d seen Mark the cat and this new female cat out backl making the cat-with-two-backs several times in one day? […]
