I spent a remarkably short period of time today in the local grocery store parking lot with a “free kittens” sign. All five kittens were given away within 45 minutes or so.

Upon returning home, I released Fingers from the basement, where she’s been for the last month and a half. I didn’t want to let her outside until I had the kitten-issue resolved, in case she needed to keep playing mother cat to any unwanted kittens. Once outside, I took some pictures of her. Her recovery has been nothing short of remarkable.

As mentioned a while back, Fingers had a horrible abcess that the vets treated by simply chopping away about a quarter of the skin around her neck. For a long time it remained a hideous gaping wound. But after some weeks, it suddenly began to close… and now there is almost no evidence of it.

For those interested in the”before shot,” it’s here. Be warned, it ain’t pretty.

And here are the “after shots.” The only evidence that she had something wrong is a patch of shorter fur… and what looks like a scratched-n-scabbed mosquito bite.

Her wound was the sort of thing that had it happened to me, I’d still be crying about it. And damned sure would not have healed over by now, not without a whole lot of skin grafts.

  1. Good news! Just FYI, you might want to be careful about *giving* kittens away as there are assholes out there who will pick them up to feed to snakes. Not a cheery thought I know, just a heads up.

  2. wunderful news about Fingers

and yes be careful about *giving* kittens away
here (Belgium) some very sick bastards (mostly east european)
using cats as “Training Partner” for Dog Fight
    or selling them Testlabs

goddamm why are those sick Bastard not used for Animal testing ?

  3. Cats are amazingly resilient. I’m glad to see she is doing much better. I’m also sure you don’t give the kittens to just anyone. 🙂

  4. Glad to see Fingers is back in shape.

As for the cautions, most cat people have a good nose for such, and there are some seriously sick people out there.

Scott, I tried to email you some pics of our crew, one of KittyKat’s belly stitches. they might have gone into your junk mail.
