Twenty six years ago, in 1991, the USAF ended the long practice of keeping nuclear armed B-52s on 24 hour standby ready to launch at a moments notice. The practice ended because the Soviet Union had collapses and the Cold War was finally over; at last there was no more threat of being nuked into oblivion by power-mad socialists.

Ah, good times.

So what we’re saying is that it sounds like it’s legitimately time to start digging a fallout shelter.

    Peachy keen.

Because if they took them back off 24 hour alert the world would suddenly change, right?

If they reinstate some version of Chrome Dome then maybe… The other 2 legs of the triad are still on 24 hour alert so dystopia looks about the same distance as it was.

We definitely need to up defense spending on the other side of the Pacific. Our antiquated nuclear force is woefully inadequate against that of the US. No hard feelings, it’s just mutually assured destruction. We don’t think you’re out to nuke us, but we can’t take the chance either by not being able to threaten you, and vice versa on your end.

Drop your shovels the AF is denying the story.
