Found on ebay a while back, a pre-NASA Army Ballistic Missile Agency illustration dated 25 May 1959 depicting the Mercury space capsule, including smaller views of it atop both a Redstone and a Jupiter. In both cases this would be a purely sub-orbital lob. It’s unclear just what’s going on with the nose of the Jupiter version; it does not have the abort tower the Redstone version has. This may be a purely aerodynamic fairing, with abort motors located underneath the capsule in the sizable adapter section.
Being a Trump supporter is essentialy enough to start a riot.
This is how democracy dies: with the thunderous dumbassery of the unthinking mob.
I’m of the opinion that there is no such thing as a topic so horrible that it cannot be made into a funny joke. It’s just that some topics are so horrible that it would take the skill of a *really* *good* comedian to make the joke work. The Holocaust, animal cruelty, genocide, sexual assault, racism, terminal illness, religious ritual murder… these would be hard to make successful jokes about. And any *smart* person attempting humor with these topics would think twice. You’d think.
Politics is of course a pretty easy and common subject of humor. And thus it’s perfectly understandable when *anybody* throws out a joke about Politician X. If the joke works, great. If the joke doesn’t work… meh, move on to the next one. Like “airline food” or “weather” jokes, if you make a “politics” joke that falls flat, it’s no big deal (caveat: unless you make a joke about the Left. They don’t like that.). But when the subject of the joke is a Dangerous Topic, the jokester had better put some thought into the joke. Not just in crafting it but in determining if the joke is any sort of good idea.
And so, the subject of this post:
Rainn Wilson Deletes Several Satanic, Pedophilia Laced Tweets
Thus joining the like of Harmon and Gunn in thinking that pedo-jokes are funny. Now, again, I have no doubt that Richard Pryor or Eddie Murphy or George Carlin or Robin Williams or Dave Chapelle *could* have made funny pedo jokes, and may well have. I bet even they would have balked at the idea most of the time. But here’s the thing: you read or watch any of the “jokes” that Gunn, Harmon or Wilson – and no doubt a whole bunch more of our Hollywood Betters who are currently furiously scrubbing their Twitter accounts – produced, and there’s something that links them all together: they’re just not funny. They’re not witty. They don’t have anything resembling humor. They are just – at best – lame attempts to shock. “Look at me, see how transgressive and bold I am,” and it just comes across as “look at me, see what a perv I am.”
As always, I’m uneasy about people losing their careers over bad jokes on Twitter. But once again we’re faced with a guy who seemed to make a lot of the same kind of head-scratchingly-unwise jokes. This may be the fault of Twitter. When it becomes *that* easy to spew forth every least thought you have for all he world to see, then the self-editing process inherent in just about any deeper form of publishing seems to fall by the wayside.
Now from Utah!!
Police: pilot killed in Utah County crashed aircraft into his own home after arrest for domestic violence
Basically, the guy committed an egregious act of cultural appropriation, copying without proper attribution from the Al Queda playbook of using a stolen airplane as a kinetic and incendiary weapon against a civilian structure. Basically, the guy got into a domestic assault situation with his wife, got arrested Sunday, bailed out of jail, went to the airport, got in his employers plane (Cessna 525 Citation Jet) and crashed into his own house at around 2:30 AM.
The news media is going bugnuts about the threat posed by Nazis, but honestly, pilots going bonkers really seems like a bigger threat now.
She ran on responsible gun regulation, now she’s accused of killing her campaign treasurer
One Kellie Collins ran as a Democrat for Congress in Georgia in 2017, with gun control as part of her platform. Now she’s known for shooting a former campaign staffer.
Finding out that a gun control advocate is a violent hypocrite is about as shocking as hearing about a well-known “male feminist” being called out for sexual harassment or a Family Values Preacher turning out to be a pervert. It seems to be that a lot of people believe that espousing the Correct View is enough to protect them from their actions.
On the one hand: This is funny, because you know it’s true.
On the other hand: this is distinctly *not* funny, because you know it’s true and the “logic” behind it can and will be used to try to harm, scam, beat down good people of decent character.
On the gripping hand: the more this type of thing is over-used, and the more white people recognize it, the less white people will come to care about being accused of racism. And that again gives a “one hand/other hand” split:
1: Bad news for society because *actual* racists will be able to be more open with doing actual racist things
2: Good for society because it may lead to a shedding of needless guilt
A photo of a 1960’s Bell Helicopter concept for a high-speed tiltrotor. In this design the aircraft would operate in hover and low speed much like the V-22, but at higher speeds the prop-rotors would stop rotating and fold back to reduce drag. Forward thrust would be provided by pure jet exhaust from the convertible turboshaft engines within the fuselage.
I have uploaded high-rez scans of the color glossy photo to the 2018-08 APR Extras folder on Dropbox for APR Patrons at the $4 level and up.

A summary video of the recent theft of the Bombardier Q400 and subsequent shenanigans and crash. The guy spent a good long while talking with air traffic control, and if it wasn’t for the fact that he was a dangerous lunatic who put thousands of lives at risk you almost kinda start rooting for him. He doesn’t come across as a whacko or drunk or drugged up, just seems like a regular guy who decided to go joyriding. He was aware that he’d done wrong, he was aware that people were going to be upset, he didn’t seem to want to hurt anybody… but still, he stole a sizable airplane. This one, I think, is going to be as much of a headscratcher for the investigators as the Las Vegas shooter.
Not sure how to blame Trump (or white supremacy or the patriarchy) for this, but I’ve no doubt that top SJWs are on the job as we speak.
