Boeing 777 wing stress test. If you’re bombing along in such a plane and you’re hitting turbulence and worried about the wing snapping off… compare what you see out the window to what you see here. If you’re not getting 24 *feet* of deflection, you’re probably safe.

A couple things happened today:

1) The Cuban regime was staggering, but thanks to the Obama administration deciding to give a boost to the Cuban economy, the Castro Commies will last a good while longer.

2) Sony has decided to yank the release of “The Interview” thanks to threats from North Korean hackers.

3) New Regency has decided to pull the plug on a new Steve Carell movie “Pyongyang” just out of fear.

Huzzah, ladies and gentlemen. You can now expect to see more espionage and terrorism since it has been demonstrated to be a success way to get what you want.

“Unedited footage of a bear” goes to strange places. Not a single joke in it, yet did I laugh and laugh. Perhaps the sort of laughter one might expect after coming face to face with an eldritch horror, but laughter nonetheless. Note: don’t click n the “skip ad” thing until you’ve watched it at least once. It takes you to another website.

New: American Nuclear Explosive Devices #01

This is a prototype issue for what may become a series but which I hope to turn into a Real Book. The plan is to eventually document via accurate and detailed diagrams every nuclear explosive device produced by the US (obviously some are a little lean on declassified data). This includes bombs, Re-Entry Vehicles, a few actual “physics packages” and some stand-alone test devices. ANED01 contains information and diagrams of the first three atom bombs worked on by the US: the Thin Man and Little Boy air-droppable bombs and the Trinity “Gadget” test device. The American Nuclear Explosive Devices webpage is HERE.

ANED01 is formatted for 11X17, so the diagrams are good and large.

ANED #01 can be downloaded as a PDF file for only $4:

An ancient (well, Roman & Byzantine era) Egpytian graveyard with something like a *million* corpses in it:

Million-Mummy Cemetery Unearthed in Egypt

A portion I found particularly interesting:

While the database is in the early stages, it has already provided some intriguing initial results. Muhlestein said he and the other researchers can use the database to “show us all of the blond burials, and [it shows] they are clustered in one area, or all of the red-headed burials, and [it shows] they’re clustered in another area.”

Doesn’t say how many blonds & redheads are there or what fraction of the total they make up, but one generally doesn’t expect to find much of *any* blonds & redheads in ancient Egypt.

Woman’s will asks for her [still-living] dog to be buried with her

The German Shepherd in question is not only still living, but apparently quite healthy.

See, here’s the thing: you can kill a pig or a sheep at will, because they are meat critters. You generally own such animals specifically for the purpose of killin’ ’em at some point and putting their carcasses to use. But *dogs?* If you own a dog in order to kill it… yer doin’ it wrong.

Dick move, lady.

A video showing how a Holland and Holland double-barrelled rifle is made:

Neat! So… how much will such a trinket set you back? Well, if you want to cheap out and not get *all* the bells and whistles, you can steal it away at a mere £105,000. Of course, you can go nuts and get it in a truly manly caliber… .700 H&H.

Buttons has needed some minor dental work for a while… he has some plaque buildup, and his breath is really quite spectacularly awful. And he has developed a bump on his lower lip. So i took him to the vet today…. and spent maybe 2 minutes with the vet. And most of that was in setting up the appointment to bring him back Thursday to get the *tumor* removed from his lower lip.

GAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

So why the hell not, here are some vids of Buttons today, waiting to see the vet. The mournful sound he makes is the sound he *always* makes at the vet. Happiest cat in the world… so long as he’s home.
