The Wild Children of Yesteryear

An interesting piece discussing how different child rearing in the US was in the 19th century. In some respects, the results resemble the feral children that have resulted from the welfare state, but back then there was at least some sort of effort at instilling within them the nature and virtues of what it was to be an American republican.

Panoramic view of the M65 cannon and prime movers on display at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This cannon, of which 20 were made circa 1953, fired the 15 kiloton 280mm W9 shell. Almost as soon as the cannon was fielded, though, it was rendered obsolete by battlefield nuclear rockets and nukes capable of being carried by small strike aircraft.

NdGT explains the difference between weather and climate with the help a a four-legged Brownian Motion Generator:

[youtube cBdxDFpDp_k]

Note for those on the stereotypical Right: climate *is* changing. Long term data fully supports this conclusion. And atmospheric CO2 *is* increasing, with definite implications for the atmospheric energy balance. Deal with it.

Note for those on the stereotypical Left: unless you support a vast increase in the nuclear power industry, including things like thorium reactors… you do not truly believe that climate change is a real issue. Deal with it.

If American industry was unleashed, so that it could rake in trillions by manufacturing many terawatts of installed nuclear power, then the issue would largely resolve itself *without* having to resort to the dystopian, authoritarian solutions the Left cannot seem to think beyond. The Right, if it could get past the blinkered anti-science that has enveloped so much of it, would realize that climate change is a great opportunity for the free market and basic liberties. But both sides are mired in dumbth.

One of many types of YouTube videos that I just don’t really get are “unboxing” videos. Someone gets a product in the mail – an action figure, a video game console, whatever – and films themselves opening the box, describing the process and the packaging and so on. Meh.

But at last, here’s a good’n.

Gun range granted liquor licence [sic], time to get the shots in

This is actually a pretty neat idea. The Wilshire Gun Range in Oklahoma City has an attached cafe, and now can legally sell booze. Why isn’t this a bad idea? Because if you buy booze, they scan your drivers license and you are not allowed onto the gun range for the rest of the day. So… you can go there, grab lunch, do some shooting, get a beer and be on your way.

Note the traditional British-media fearmongering at the end of the article. Booga booga, skeery guns!
