This Japanese guy(?) “Nyango Star” plays the drums. And he plays them like a *beast.* But he plays them while wearing this silly mascot costume. Which on the one hand makes the whole thing seem rather silly, but on the other hand it clearly adds a couple extra layers of difficulty. both mobility and vision are compromised with this costume, yet the guy(?) is still able to do things with a drum that even if i had any musical talent or givadam about playing the drums I could never hope to approach.
“Just Some Guy” is a YouTuber who mostly talks about comic books and similar pop culture topics. But here he gives a thoughtful and insightful explanation of what drives the BLM movement and ideology. *Very* interestingly, YouTube has decided that the video is terribly offensive and has thus put it behind an “Age Restricted Video” wall, which means you’re unlikely to find the video unless directly pointed towards it. *Extremely* interestingly, there’s nothing actually offensive in the video. No naughty words, no name calling, no white supremacy or any such, just a pretty good discussion of the topic in light of Eric Hoffer’s book “The true Believer.”
I think the problem that YouTube has is that Just Some Guy concludes that BLM isn’t a movement with a valid cause, but instead a religion that *needs* a devil, and that devil is “the white man.” And, worse, Just Some Guy is a *black* guy. That sort of apostasy cannot be countenanced.
A foul-mouthed Irishman with a sense of humor and a disdain for not only political correctness but also the politically correct. Prepare to laugh, citizen.
As a general rule I’ve no interest in watching “childrens” YouTube channels. But this one is just a little bit different… the child in question is being raised by parents who are raising her well. If more parents did this, it’d be a better and safer world, not to mention far less crazy.
There are lots of pop culture critics on YouTube. Most are, bluntly… meh. Some, like Dictor von Doomcock, are on the mark, funny and insightful… and angry, because what’s being done with modern mythology would make any rational man angry. But then there’s the Critical Drinker, who is on the mark, funny and insightful… and drunk, because what’s being done with modern mythology will drive many a rational man to booze.
To your request of my opinion of the manner in which a newspaper should be conducted, so as to be most useful, I should answer, “by restraining it to true facts & sound principles only.” Yet I fear such a paper would find few subscribers. It is a melancholy truth, that a suppression of the press could not more compleatly deprive the nation of it’s benefits, than is done by it’s abandoned prostitution to falsehood. Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle. The real extent of this state of misinformation is known only to those who are in situations to confront facts within their knowledge with the lies of the day. I really look with commiseration over the great body of my fellow citizens, who, reading newspapers, live & die in the belief, that they have known something of what has been passing in the world in their time; whereas the accounts they have read in newspapers are just as true a history of any other period of the world as of the present, except that the real names of the day are affixed to their fables. General facts may indeed be collected from them, such as that Europe is now at war, that Bonaparte has been a successful warrior, that he has subjected a great portion of Europe to his will, &c., &c.; but no details can be relied on. I will add, that the man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them; inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods & errors. He who reads nothing will still learn the great facts, and the details are all false.
On the subject of the hypocrisy and outright insanity of “cultural appropriation:”
And on the subject of “strong female characters:”
The usual crop of “strong female characters” are discussed, both Real “strong women like Ellen Ripley and Princess Leia, and the forced NPC-like Rey and Captain Marvel.
There are some oddities when this subject is discussed, there have been some truly badass “strong female characters” who just keep being forgotten in these discussions.
Like Kira Nerys, who was central to making DS9 the great show that it was…
