As an American, my opinion on the British monarchy this:

I Don’t Care.

It’s profoundly silly, terribly obsolete, fundamentally useless and wasteful. But if the Brits want it… shrug, that’s on them, nothing to do with me.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not like the point of view of rabid pro-abortionists who shriek that men, who cannot get pregnant (transphobia!!!), are not to have opinions on abortion, up to and including not having opinions on how thrilled they are that their own offspring are being summarily and unilaterally exterminated. If another American wants to rail against monarchies… great. If another American *wants* a monarchy, or thinks the British version is just neato-keen… they are allowed to have that clearly wrong opinion. The only time *my* own blood gets hepped up regarding monarchy is when the idea is floated that *I* should subject myself to such a system. If the Queen or her idiot mutant son Charles tried to sail to these shores and restore their hold on American… well, them’s fightin’ words. Similarly with American celebrities, talking heads or politicians want Americans to be subjects to a system that is monarchy in name only, with fundamental rights being yoinked at the whim of some doddering old fool.

But hey, back to the Brits. The last few weeks have seen a *lot* of performative grief out of the UK, with quite a number of very bizarre arrests. Honestly, the Queen was 96 years old… her death was not some shocking tragedy. Dying is what people in their late 90’s *do.* And further, this seems like a lot of effort to go to to pretend to give a damn about British history and tradition when British history and tradition are being torn down across the board. A series of mass deportations of foreign-born criminals, rape gangs, rioters, trouble makers of all kinds would go a hell of a lot farther in demonstrating an actual interest in preserving Britain than shutting down businesses and pretending to be grief-stricken for weeks on end. Whether the British monarchy survives the next few generations is a hell of a lot less important of a question than whether *Britain* survives the next few generations.

The British feller below is in the “end the Monarchy” camp, and he makes a number of valid arguments.

It’s my understanding that my next bookazine should be printed within a week or so. So I think I can post a few teaser images (screenshotted from the penultimate digital proof) to get the idea across (if you don’t see images below, it’s probably because either your adblocker is overly enthusiastic or the APR website is blocked for some reason):

If you would like to order a copy, there are three main routes:

1) For those in Europe, by far the best approach will likely be by ordering directly through Mortons, link HERE, or on bookstore shelves.

2) For those in the US, the less expensive approach will *probably* be through Amazon (link HERE, though still preliminary), though probably taking longer than directly from Mortons, and the possibility of finding them on bookstore shelves.

3) For those who want the Extra Special Edition and say “damn the schedule and never mind the cost,” I will *probably* have a few signed copies available. As with my prior two books, these will have an additional pair of 18X24-inch prints of diagrams from the book. These will *probably* run about $25, including shipping to the US (if you want them shipped out of the US, the shipping prices gets ludicrous… don’t blame me). They’ll be signed and dated and numbered in order of receipts. If you would be interested in this version, send me an email so I can make sure I have enough on hand for that. My email:

Northrop Grumman to Unveil the B-21 Raider

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC), in partnership with the U.S. Air Force, will unveil the B-21 Raider during the first week of December at the company’s Palmdale, California facility. … Six B-21 test aircraft are in various stages of final assembly in Palmdale, California. Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Air Force confirmed in May that the B-21 first flight is projected for 2023.

I expect this to be the last US strategic bomber to be unveiled in my lifetime. The last one, the B-2, was unveiled in 1988, some 34 years ago. The bomber before that, the B-1A, was shown in 1974, or  14 years before the B-2. The bomber before *that* was the B-70 in 1964, or ten years before the B-1. The B-58 was rolled out in 1965; the B-52 in 1951. The trend line indicates that years between bombers became decades between bombers have become generations; whatever follows the B-21  probably won’t arrive until… what? 2070?

A mid-1960’s North American Aviation concept for a sorta-lifting body spacecraft that would use deployable rotors for landing. Functioning as an autogyro, these rotors would be a more controllable alternative to a parachute, in principle allowing fairly pinpoint runway touchdowns. I had cause to go looking for information on this recently; i was fairly certain that I had a few reports on the subject, but could not find them. Grrr.

A few photos I found online a few years ago of a display model, presumably originating from an auction website such as ebay:

It’s about time:

It never had a real Blu Ray release, which always seemed odd to me.

And why not:

And why the hell not:

Update: it was once again brought to my attention that Amazon Text+Image links are nuked by ad blockers. So here are the text links to the 4K movies I linked to:

Poltergeist (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital)

Red Dawn – Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray [4K UHD]

So YouTube recommended the new trailer for the movie “5-25-77:”

It’s a “coming of age” film about a kid who wants to make movies, set around the time of the release of the original Star Wars. Shrug, ok, another movie about movie makers. But a comment made me look this up on Wikipedia, and lo and behold, there IS something rather unique about the film:

Johnson began funding the project in 2001 and filming took place from 2004 to 2006. Additional shots and special effects were filmed in 2015, 2016, and over the next six years, making the films production span a total of 18 years.

Great googaly moogaly!

A wholly remarkable shooting caught on camera by a bystander. A crazed guy was shot at point blank range by a cop *twelve* times in the chest before he went down. So, yeah, I’m keeping my standard capacity mags, thanks.

So “The Woman King” is a forthcoming “based on real events” movie about the “Dahomey Amazons.” It’s being spun as sort of a real-world Wakanda… an African nation that fought against evil European slavers. Small problem: Dahomey made its riches by selling other Africans into slavery. That’s pretty much what their economy was based on. But, whatever. The focus of the movie is on a corps of female warriors, “Amazons” who fought for their king. How’d that work out for them? Well, there is the official trailer… and there’s this lightly modified version:

What do you want to bet that that’s not exactly the spin the movie will produce…

Entertaining as always, but with a healthy dose of WTFery when he discusses the condition of the Moskva prior to being attacked. It’s… kinda astonishing. A ship that on paper was damned impressive, capable of dishing out heaps of violence, and able to defend itself from heaps of violence, turned out to be almost wholly inoperable. With an unforeseen diversion into the One True Cross, because apparently a chunk of it was on the Moskva. Whoopsie.
