The internet is aflame over the story of Ahmed Mohamed and his home-made clock. In short, his piece of electronics got him suspended and arrested because the school thought it was a “hoax bomb.” As would have been entirely predictable, since the kid ain’t lily white, and since he is a Muslim, the claims are going around that this is clearly a case of unwarranted Islamophobia, a result of America’s racist demonization of our peaceful Islamic brethren.

Uh-huh.

You know, there might be a case to be made here. Except… hmmm. Let’s take a look at the clock in question:

Hmm. That’s kinda… dodgy. Sure, it’s probably just the electronic bits needed to make a clock (in a not-in-the-slightest-suspicious hard-shell case). But imagine trying to take that through the airport as a carry-on. Does it look like a bomb? Well, I don’t see any explosives. But does it look like what a lot of people seem to think a bomb looks like? Well… yeah, I guess. Is it over-reaction on the part of the authorities? Almost certainly. Is it Islamophobia? Is it racism? Hmmmm…

Now, if you can make a case that that Pop-Tart looks as much like a real gun as that briefcase-clock looks like a briefcase bomb, then *maybe* you’ll have a case that Ahmed is the victim of racism or Islamophobia, more than he’s a victim of “zero tolerance” policies. Let me know when any of these *other* kids get invited to the White House like Ahmed did.

China shows off secret ‘carrier-killer’ missile at Victory Day parade

While the US has spent decades and many millions of dollars throwing money down the rat-hole of scramjets to create airbreathing hypersonic missiles, the Chinese have apparently fielded a Mach 10 anti-ship missile with a range of 900 miles. They’ve done this by just building a sizable ballistic missile, a straight-up solid propellant rocket. Not as advanced or as neato as a scramjet cruiser, but it’s faster than any conceivable airbreather and, big as it is, it’s transportable by truck. One of these would presumably be able to poke a hole straight through the likes of an aircraft carrier.  Of course, nobody in the west is all that sure about how accurate this thing is; it has some form of terminal guidance, so at least in theory is should be pretty accurate.

Photos of the truck-transportable missiles (in canisters) at the link. (Might be copyrighted, dunno)

If the Chinese demonstrate that this missile is accurate and is capable of trashing a carrier, it could really mess with the balance of power in the region. Missiles like this would be difficult to intercept, and would likely push US Navy aircraft carriers well away from Chinese territory. Not just mainland China, of course, but also away from Taiwan and the South China Sea

Also note just how old-school Commie Chinese military parades look.

Never mind dubious, possibly phony-bologna ex-Soviet nukes… here’s something I can actually use:

Boeing’s “Silent Strike” portable laser weapon, two kilowatts of directed energy on a gimbal. Useful for shooting down drones. Possibly also handy for long-distance magic tricks (use your imagination… can you think of anything that might benefit from suddenly spiking to two thousand degrees?).

Proof that even the mighty M-1 Abrams main battle tank can be converted into scrap metal by a small anti-tank missile if it gets hit just right. This is reportedly a Saudi M-1 taken out by Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Note that just after the strike, the videographer utters the phrase the world has come to associate with things blowing up.

Sure, why not:

BOMBSHELL: China and America already at war: Tianjin explosion carried out by Pentagon space weapon in retaliation for Yuan currency devaluation… Military helicopters now patrolling Beijing

Because a chemical plant built and operated in a nation run by communists couldn’t *possibly* catch fire without aid form American space weaponry.

Come for the “Rods from God,” stay for the “vaccines cause autism” and the transition to “Shemitah” (“Blood Moon” gibberish).

Putting together the 3D CAD model of a General Electric has been complex but straightforward… but hammering the 2D diagrams made from it into shape has proven a bit challenging. Most of the 2D work is done in an ancient version of AutoCAD, but there was something about the diagram (created in Rhino 3D) that caused ACAD to either lock up or crash. So finalizing the diagram has been done in Rhino, which means the diagrams will look a little different.

But is it in the 40 watt range?

The Military Will Test a New Terrifyingly Loud Noise Gun

In short: it’s a laser that focuses a nanosecond pulse in front of a target to cause the air to superheat into a ball of plasma and go BANG, at 130 decibels. So far the ranges tested have been short; development is needed to given the system useful range of 100 meters.

Expect to see this used not so much by the military, but by militarized police forces looking for a way to knock protestors off their feet.

First up:

Well, that’s embarrassing. But then the Russian Navy (Navy Day in Sevastopol) is not to be outdone:

Looks like the solid rocket boosters for an SS-N-14 “Silex” torpedo-carrying missile broke away just a little early.
