I don’t have any more information than what’s contained in this one extremely thin little PR announcement:

Senator Lee to Offer Amendment Tonight to Ban Most Gun Control in the Senate

…later tonight, Senator Mike Lee of Utah intends to offer an amendment to the budget resolution that would prohibit any gun control legislation which does not have a 2/3 vote in the Senate.

I’d like it to be true. I’d like it to pass. But I suspect that, at best, it’s a little bit of political theater that’ll simply get wiped away.

A rule that makes *any* new federal law or regulation that infringes upon basic rights contingent upon requiring a 2/3 majority seems like a good idea to me.

Around 1 AM this morning I became aware that a lightning storm was passing by. Sadly, it was a fast mover; by the time I got my camera set up taking photos, it was all over. Still, a *few* interesting photos out of the process, though no good lightning shots.

For the past week I’ve been hoping to get photos of the comet, mostly without success… clouds and mountains have presented troubles. Tonight I finally got sight of the thing, just before it set. In the future I hope to improve upon this.

In lieu of good comet photos, I did get some decent shots of the evening sky.

Went by this heading into Tremonton today. I have no idea what the story is; seems very unlikely to be snow or ice related, since it’s been in the 40’s the past few days and the roads are clear. I could dream up a scenario where this car tried to pass someone driving slow, and lost control, I suppose. It must’ve been entertaining to watch.

Clearly there must’ve been an injury, since there’s an ambulance. I have no further data.

You know who doesn’t care? That would be Marvin.

As I’ve babbled previously, this winter has been a *real* winter. A fair deal of snow, lots of cold. Last winter was warm and dry; summer was *hot* and dry. As a consequence, the plants that grow in the mountains and provide winter food for the critters were pretty badly stunted. As a consequence of *that,*critters are going further afield and changing their strategies.

Around here deer pop up from time to time, but you hardly ever see them in daytime. But this winter they’ve been bolder than usual, and are shoplifting hay meant for horses… including the hay in my back yard. If only there was a way to commercialize deer poop, I’d have it made.

A few days back a blizzard came through and dumped a foot or so of snow. Not newsworthy, but I did find one thing odd: yellow snow. Normally, the presence of  such indicates nothing more than a now-empty critter-bladder. But this snow was yellow with no evidence of footprints, and went yards overhead. Clearly, the snow must have leeched the yellow color out of the wood poles… but I’ve no idea what or how.
