Seems summer might be over.
Who says Communism can’t lead to booming businesses? Here’s a story how the Chinese Communist Party has successfully created a bunch of jobs in Turkey:
The covid cruise ship graveyard: Passenger liners are stripped for scrap at Turkish dock after the multi-billion pound industry was smashed by the coronavirus crisis
Communism is a *fantastic* way to turn good times for the western world into misery and financial ruin. But hey, at least there are some snazzy photos to look at while you ponder what sort of world we’ll have one not only has the Commie Cough had its way with the world, but the Harris Administration strips the citizenry of human rights and the ability to travel. Good times ahead!
Ponderable: Let’s say Trump succumbs to the Pinko Pox before the election. What happens to US/China relations in a theoretical Pence administration? Not much point in contemplating such things in a Harris administration; safe to say she’d stay their lapdog. Hell, the new administration would probably be even *more* grateful to the ChiComs for having taken out Bad Orange Man. Sure, they will have taken out a quarter million other Americans to get him, but a Communist can’t make an omelet without scrambling a few kulaks, amirite?
The Russian tradition of just leaving their amazing aircraft to the whims of nature continues…
Russia’s Flying Sea Monster Broke Free
It was being towed across the Caspian Sea when it broke loose and beached itself. Hopefully it’ll get rescued.
Someone snuck past the sleeping guard on duty and took a number of photos of the interior of the craft. They’re impressive; check ’em out.
A while back I found two 8X10 glossies in an antique store. The owners had no information on the photos; they had come in a box of photos from an estate sale, the rest of the photos being completely unrelated. The store owners thought that the photos showed a test of a beam weapon of some kind. Not unreasonable for people not familiar with actual beam weapons or ballistic missiles. The photos are certainly evocative of death beams zapping targets in the sky. But what they actually show are missile warheads coming *down,* screaming towards the ground at incredible speed. When the photos were taken, I’ve no idea. *Where,* almost certainly somewhere in the South Pacific… most likely Kwajalein Atoll, a common target for ICBMs and SLBMs. *What* missile was tested, I’m also uncertain. One photo shows a single re-entry vehicle; the other shows three. The Minuteman III lobbed three warheads; the Peacekeeper, up to ten; the Trident, up to 14. This *probably* shows a Minuteman III… assuming that is actually a single test.
I’ve uploaded the full resolution scans of these photos to the 2020-09 APR Extras Dropbox folder for Patrons and Subscribers at the $4 level and above.
How, indeed HOW, could storage of 2,700+ tons of ammonium nitrate in this fashion possibly have gone wrong?

I worked with explosives and solid rocket propellant back in the day. Had I come across a bunker of AN or AP stored thusly, all you’d see of me is a hole in the air in the shape of my ass and a burst of unearthly blue light from where I used to be.
1: The cruise ship Orient Queen was in port opposite the blast… it capsized and sank:

2: A wedding shoot (or at least a photoshoot of the bride) was upended by the blast. Certainly a memorable day…
