Ever since the “Tea Party” groups got up and running in the early part of 2009, the loudest complaint against them is that they are racist. Of course, how could they not be… Obama is black, and that must be the only possible reason why anyone would oppose his fiscal polices. There is, however, one small problem with that line of reasoning. Let’s see if you, unlike the media, can spot it:

JUAN WILLIAMS: Will Herman Cain Be the Big Story of the 2012 Election?

Frank Luntz, the bestselling author and GOP pollster, held an instant focus group after the debate which overwhelmingly declared the Cain the winner. “In all the years I have been doing this, I have never seen a reaction like this to a debate.”

Cain and Hasner Win Ft. Lauderdale Tea Party Straw Poll

Herman Cain came out on top of the Presidential straw poll, with 18.5% of the first place votes.  Second and third place went to Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, respectively.  There was also a very strong showing for Representative Allen West as a write-in candidate, putting him only a little behind Paul.

Hmmm.

Herman Cain:

Allen West:

Now, look. I don’t care for Obama. Not because he’s black (or half-black, depending on the narrative being read at the time), but because he’s a socialist dumbass. Yes, there are some on the political right who are racist, who say racist things or call him racist names (“Obongo” is one I’ve seen numerous times, and every time it makes me cringe). But then, there are a lot of leftists who are quite racist. Hell, anyone who takes a look at the state of the “black family” today and determines that the Great Society programs were and remain a good idea is quite probably a racist, IMO.

But all that aside… if the Tea Partiers were a bunch of racists, why would they like Herman Cain so much? While I don’t spend too much time hanging around with Klansmen and skinheads and the like, it seems to me that while the white racists might *hate* a black feller that agrees with them politically less than they’d *hate* a black feller who disagrees with them… they’d still *hate* him, and would rather vote for the white guy, regardless of the politics.

Less relevant blather after the break:

I’ve not spent much time examining the Republican 2012 hopefuls. I know this:

Trump’s a joke.

Huckabee gives me the uncomfortables.

Newt has a lot of really good ideas, but is a demonstrated scumbag (almost as bad as Bill Clinton) and won’t win.

Ron Paul has great fiscal ideas, terrible foreign policy ideas.

Cain successfully ran a business.

West was a military leader of men.

If I had my way, there’d be a preliminary test that the American voting public would apply to a Presidential candidate. Not a legal requirement, mind you… just a simple test the voters would keep in mind. And this test would be: nobody should be President unless they’ve had good successful executive experience. This means things like having been a mayor, a state governor, a military officer or an executive or owner of a business. Being a senator or a representative or diplomat does *not* confer this sort of experience.

  1. Heya, Scott!

Well, the word “racist” is one of those terms that the liberals like to fling about like so much electronic monkey pooh. Like the real stuff, there doesn’t need to any concrete reason for it to start flying, and for those splattered with it, there is an instant horrified desire to scrape the mess off and get far away from it. For the kindergarten mentality that likes to use the word, it works the same way… being beaten with facts, statistics, and reality is easily combatted by dropping the big “R” label and the poor target tripping over themselves to get away from the stink.

I’m a big fan of both Herman Cain and Col. West, and think that either or both would be good choices for the highest office. I think both of their biggest pluses is NOT having extensive political / governmental experience. Mr. Cain has a background as a successful businessman, having to make payrolls and make and keep a business profitable. Col. West has experience making decisions that may actually put himself and those he was responsible for on the “line”.

I don’t know a lot about the other candidates, but am instantly turned off by the career politicians many of them are. I’d like to see the lot of them get together, put their own agrandizement aside, and actually come up with a plan and a team to run against BHO.

  2. Haven’t you heard the latest Official Line? Tea Partiers support Cain and West BECAUSE they’re racists. It must be true, Bill Maher said so.

    • Yes, don’t you know ….. if conservatives don’t like Obama it’s because they are racists. On the other hand, if conservatives like Herman Cain it’s because they are racists. To the leftists the fact that conservatives are racists is determined a priori and the argument is simply adjusted to fit the desired outcome.

  3. I don’t know enough about Cain to say whether I like him or not. I do think he’s one of the few candidates who doesn’t have something irredeemably wrong with him (Mitt did Romneycare, I like the comparison of Gingrich to Clinton, and I concur with your views on Paul’s foreign policy). I like what I’ve seen of Allen West, but to me his best strength is his military background and his uncompromising stance against Islamism, while I think we need someone whose best strength is his fiscal background. Right now my favorite potential canddiate is Mitch Daniels, b/c I think he has that background, and because I think he’s someone that tea parties can honestly stand behind, but who can also get more traditional Republican support. If it ends up being Cain or West though, I would probably still vote for either with far less than my usual distaste.

  4. Oh, and Huckabee announced he’s not running. Thank God.

  5. As someone whose proudest boast about his famiy is that all four of his great-grandfathers fought honorably against the United States of America in The War, I am happy to say that I would love to have Herman Cain for President, and intend to exert myself to try and make that happen.

Unlike the present occupant of the Oval Office, Herman Cain is both 100% African and 100% American.

  6. I don’t much care what colour they are on the outside, so long as they aren’t alternately yellow and red on the inside.

    Jim

    • Skin color is the least significant signifier, whether one is breeding dogs, cats, or humans. It’s the part between the ears, the behavior, not the appearance, which really counts, The American Kennel Club and the Cat Fanciers Association do not seem to understand this.
