Akkadian, language of Babylon, has been dead 2000 or so years. Linguists seem to think they’ve figured out its pronunciation, and have posted a number of readings in MP3 format of things like the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Codex Hammurabi:

It varies from “alien” to “kinda familiar.”

  1. That is one unique-sounding language; I could pick up hints of Egyptian in it at points, but it sounds like something pretty much onto itself.
Having read enough H.P. Lovecraft, I was a bit hesitant to crank up the invocation to the Gods Of Night, lest something odd showed up. 🙂
