Related to the earlier astronaut rocket pack, United Tech also produced artwork for a virtually identical appearing pack for soldiers. Because, you know, soldiers would have to leap over so many cliffs in Viet Nam.

And still no sign of a control system on it.
Even Commando Cody had more controls on his rocket belt suit.
At this point, you might just as well strap the soldier to a JATO bottle. 🙂
Note also how the exhaust doesn’t even disturb the grass under the soldier as he lifts off.
Also, this thing is probably going to react as well to getting hit by a bullet as a flamethrower pack, and they were none-too-popular to wear in WW II.
