The Hill Aerospace Museum has a number of interesting piston-engined aircraft out on display… C-124, B-29, others. Sadly they’re not as shiny as this B-17…
Modern turbine engines are masterpieces of design and engineering, but theyy really aren’t very interesting.
Radials in particular and big reciprocating engines in general are far more interesting, I think. I had a field day at the Udvar-Hazy Center, believe it or not š
Jim, I absolutely love to hear a radial engine ship in the sky. My wife and kid and friends think I’m a bit strange, I hear one and I run outside, yelling for Boy, and tell him to watch it, listen, that is history in the sky and very soon they will all be gone.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that I like the second one a lot.
