Well, this should prove endlessly fascinating for the press.

Trump Jr. Was Told in Email of Russian Effort to Aid Campaign

In short, in June 2016 Don Trump Jr. was informed via email of a meeting with Russian lawyer who claimed to have dirt on Clinton… dirt dug up by the Russian government for the purpose of aiding Trump. Don Jr. expressed enthusiasm for this.

On  the one hand, this is not good news for the Trump narrative that he and his campaign had nothing to do with the Russians. On the other hand, it doesn’t really seem to back up the anti-Trump narrative that his campaign colluded with the Russians. It seems like the Russians – assuming the lawyer knew what she was talking about – had found the incriminating evidence on Clinton on their own initiative, and were simply offering it to the Trump campaign.

Now, on the one hand if someone offers you information that would be very useful or valuable to you, it seems reasonable enough to at least hear them out. On the other hand, there are laws against political campaigns accepting valuable gifts from foreign nationals, and “opposition research” can be considered monetarily valuable. Thus a violation of campaign finance laws. And on the other hand, we have hysterical Democrats like Tim Kaine crying “treason.” The problem with *that* is that treason is clearly defined in the US Federal Code:

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason…

… and Don Jr.’s actions don’t come close to “treason.” In 2016,Russia was not an enemy of the US, so that wipes it out right there. And accepting information from even an enemy does not constitute giving them aid and comfort.

On the whole this is bad news for Trump. And potentially good news for future-President Pence.

As long as we chuck Hillary, Loretta, and Susan in the same jail I’m good.

Assuming you mean the Trump administration, not just Don Jr, that actually sounds like a fair trade.

Wanna swap Soros for the Mercers while we’re at it? Single round each to the backs of their heads?

I was just talking Jr. but I’d be willing to throw in the Don if we added Bernie and Pocahontas Warren. The problem with getting rid of billionaires is their money just passes down to one of their idiot brood.

          I was just talking Jr.

You want three seniors for just one minor player? Hell no.

The problem with getting rid of billionaires is their money just passes down to one of their idiot brood.

I’m happy to swap their offspring too.

I’m no Trump fan but the way he tweaks the left has been amusing. The Clinton’s whom I loathe are pretty much finished unless their dimwit daughter far exceeds expectations. Pelosi and Maxine are perfect where they are as shining beacons of why independents should stay away from the left. While I lean towards the right on many things their talking heads are nearly useless. The number of bright minds in the federal government is vastly outnumbered by the turds we keep sending there. It’s like Washington is guarded by a proof of lobotomy border.

If their offspring are idiots, then they will blow through their inheritance, and no longer be billionaires.

Thus is part of why I’d like to see society change to where its frowned upon for the poors to have many kids, but positively praised for the riches to have just as many kids as possible. This way their wealth gets spread out and you he the advantages of “wealth redistribution” without the undeniable evil of government appropriation of wealth.

And? So what? I seem to be missing the part where anything illegal, or even unethical, happened.

The most damning *rational* argument I’ve heard is that there might be aa possible violation of campaign finance laws by taking “valuable” gift from foreign nationals, a gift in the form of opposition research. However, there’s no evidence yet that the campaign actually took possession of that research. instead, it seemed to be released through wikileaks, assuming that’s the same stuff.

Which would be an interesting way around the legal trouble: if it would be illegal for you to accept opposition research, much the same result can be had by the gift-giver simply giving it to someone else.

The one actually troubling bit is that the campaign seemed to recognize that the Putin government were working for them to win.

If Hillary didn’t have so much dirt on her it wouldn’t have mattered. IMO we owe the Russians a debt of gratitude, if only from keeping her out, and God only knows what her and her cronies would have done with the Supreme Court.

I’m thinking the whole thing was a trap for Don Jr.

McCain is guilty of working with Brits in the whole golden shower deal.

  • madoc62

Seems like another serving of “nothingburger” to me.

Someone told someone connected to Trump that they had dirt on Hillary.

And that’s about as deep as it got.

Mind you, this wasn’t Vladimir Putin secretly calling Donald Trump to demand a piece of his soul in exchange for information illegally obtained by the KGB about Hillary Clinton.

This is just another bottom of the barrel scraping effort to find something – anything, really – to keep the hysteria going.

The left still thinks that Putin owns Trump and that with Trump in the White House the Russians have effectively conquered the US. The denial is strong with these people. The left is in so much denial (if degree of denial is even quantifiable) it’s actually really laughable. Clinton lost so they’re desperately trying to rationalize their defeat with the most ridiculous allegations.

It’s working. Everywhere on social media the left continues to devote every iota of time towards squealing about Trump and Russia. It’s hilarious.

    Scott,
    Don’t be silly.
It is a typical propaganda of losers from Democrats (but also from other feathered families in USA).
Establishment is loosing its power, because Trump can be as great president as Ronald Reagan was. It is a cry of all those leftists in your country, because establishment is not pro capitalistic, but they are still only family/tribe people.

So if this woman had showed up with clear evidence of Hillary eating puppies and kittens what would be the story here? Hillary or Trump Jr?
