GRRRRR.

RIP Jerry Doyle, Babylon 5‘s Mr. Garibaldi

Aged 60. No cause of death yet. He was that rarest of things… a Hollywood actor who wasn’t a raging liberal. Plus he was freakin’ Mr. Garibaldi.

So, time to update the Babylon 5 Curse list:

CRAP! I met him a couple of times at shuttle launches. Very nice guy.

“Plus he was freakin’ Mr. Garibaldi.”

I always got that impression…when he was “acting”, it wasn’t really acting for him. it was just his real personality, stretched a bit here and there.

a damn shame. I just hope it wasn’t something stupid like drugs. he never struck me as the type, hearing his comments after Jeff Conaway died, he seemed to be very against that sort of thing personally.

He wasn’t near famous enough to die as fashionable a death as drug overdose. I’d guess something like a heart attack, a stroke or maybe even just falling down the stairs.

Given that Neo Chekov died by being squished by his own Jeep, B-grade celebrities may be starting a trend of dying less cliched Hollywood deaths.

no. just no. Garabaldi doesn’t die from falling down the stairs. no way.

Bester pushed him. not that you could prove it..he memory-wiped anyone within a 20 mile radius.

and now there is someone knocking at my door. damn Nightwatch doesn’t even let you hit “send” before they pick you up for treason now.

He even had a talk radio program…

Strange–I swore I heard that Peter Jurasik had died years ago.
I remember hearing of the death of the father of my old friend Steve several times, yet most recently, another contact said that it was his Mom.

Sometimes I feel as if I’m living in an alternate history–sometimes when I look at my doors and walls–and feel as if everything has been moved one inch to the left or something.

        RIP

Being an actor is a lousy job. You.re constantly broke. You’re constantly in need of a new gig. Unless you’re one of the stars like Tom Hanks or Brad Pitt it just sucks. I don’t know if anyone has done any statistical studies but I imagine the life expectancy is pretty poor.

  • Ron Butler

Saw him at DragonCon some years back, on a panel with some of the other B5 actors. They were nattering on about acting as a calling and artistic commitment and purity of purpose, and he stopped them and said, “Be honest. If your agent called you tomorrow and said ‘I’ve got you a part in a musical about gay cowboys,’ would you take the gig?” There was a long silence and then they all raised their hands, shamefacedly. Doyle first.
