Convair XP-92
A nearly successful post-war attempt to design, build and test a supersonic, delta-winged, ramjet powered interceptor. This is the biggest single article APR has yet run, and is jam-packed with data, drawings and photos.
1952: Man Conquers Space
This article describes Werner von Braun's design for a three-stage reusable space launcher, with new art provided by David Sander. Along with the technical description of the vehicle there is a description of a film currently in production that will show via CGI what the conquest of space might have looked like had things gone a bit differently. More on this film can be found at: http://www.acw.com.au/surfacesrendered/MCSHomepage.html
Issue V3N2, March - April 2001

Star Clipper
A Lockheed design for the Space Shuttle. An innovative 1.5 stage to orbit concept, this craft used a very X-33-like lifting body mated to expendable V-tanks to attain orbit with a 50,000 pound-plus payload. This 24 page article includes many detailed drawings
Exectutive transport version of the F-106 by Dennis R. Jenkins
In an attempt to expand the market for the F-106, Convair proposed modified versions to serve as high speed passenger transports. Several layout drawings included.
Boeing's Sonic Cruiser
Information on Boeing's latest airliner concept, along with prior designs for transonic airliners, including greatly area-ruled conventional layouts and swing-wing SST's.
Issue V3N3, May-June 2001

Martin Astrorocket
An early 1960's series of concepts for operational 50,000 pound payload reusable launch vehicles for the USAF. Numerous drawings and art.
Bomber Launch for Dyna Soar

Douglas C-132
An early/mid-1950's concept for a turboprop, high-speed, swept wing cargo plane. Several stages along the design evolution are presented.
Grumman FAAV
An early 1990's design for a VTOL troop support/anti-tank aircraft for the United States army. Drawings and wind tunnel model photos.
Issue V3N4, July-August 2001

Boeing Model 844-2050E Dyna-Soar
A large article about the final design of this important yet canceled spaceplane. Includes information on materials, structural design, launch systems, thermal control, reaction control and propulsion and operational derivatives such as personnel shuttles and satellite interceptors. Numerous drawings.

Douglas D-558-III, by Dennis R. Jenkins
Before the X-15 there was the D-558-III. Meant to be third in a line of groundbreaking high speed aircraft, the D-558-III was to fill the role the X-15 was eventually built for... hypersonic, high altitude rocket aircraft research. This article includes a wealth of detail and many illustrations.
Rockwell D-575
A series of unconventional designs for fighters capable of cruising supersonically. Four craft were designed and are shown in detailed 3-views, giving a good look at the curved wings to be used.
Martin Model 201
A design nearly lost to history, this was a World War II era medium bomber.
Hawker VTOL
A patented design for a VTOL civilian jet.
Boeing SSTO designs, 1988
Several designs for mixed-fuel single stage to orbit craft with different assumptions regarding structural technology... leading to vastly different designs for the same mission.
