2: The inevitable wailing by Certain People that this was a war crime or bin Laden was denied his civil rights, blah, blah, blah.
Good f’n riddance, dirtbag.
BAD NEWS UPDATE: He was “buried at sea.” A pity. He should’ve been skinned and turned into a throw-rug. Or at the very least publicly displayed.

I anticipate endless crowing endless crowing from the current DC regime succeeded about how they succeeded, while their predecessor failed, when I expect this operation succeeded on account of neglect from the white house.
Second, I expect some whining about a ground invasion of Pakistan getting bin Laden.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the white house declares victory and does a Vietnam style withdraw from Afghanistan and Iraq, leaving both vulnerable to radical elements.
Color me cynical, but keep a watch for a news event that should be major being swept under the rug while this story is hot.

Apparently attack was done by helicopter-borne SEALs, and lasted about 40 minutes.
They also killed his son.
He was living in a massive compound in the town of Abbottabad, around 30 miles north/northeast of Islamabad, surrounded by tall walls and barbed wire.
Also killed his son, two couriers, and one woman…who was being used by one of the couriers as a human shield…really brave guys.
Question now becomes – did the Pakistanis know he was there?

I was actually looking at this place earlier tonight, but didn’t want to mention it till more info was in.
He has apparently been living there for some time, and the place itself is at least five years old.

We send SEALs, they send a 12 year old kid with explosives on him.
Besides nailing Osama’s son, the SEALs also got one of his brothers.
Excellent news today – there was a room in that compound that had lots of computers in it; the SEALs cracked open those computers, took all the hard drives out, and left with them.
This means we can run up a huge bill on Al-Qaeda’s credit cards. 😀

Let’s keep things in perspective. The last planner of such an attack was Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. He was killed in a similarly-specific attack in April of 1943; the war ended in September of 1945. There’s a war going on here. How much longer will it take to bring this war to an end?
That having been said, I’m going to have a drink in honor of his death. Perhaps the bacon-flavored vodka.

As long as there are people who want to kill and die in the name of their god, this war – or one just like it – will continue.

I reckon as long as J. Average Muslim is illiterate (in the strict sense) and only knows what the mullahs tell him, then this will go on. Once they see a larger perspective, then maybe things will change.

I don’t understand the respect this administration has accorded Osama bin Laden’s body. OK, maybe it would have been the wrong thing to do — but oh, so satisfying! — if we had buried him in pig entrails or ground up his corpse and fed it to dogs. But why did we give him a proper Islamic funeral? Why did we get rid of they body within 24 hours of his death? Why didn’t we allow independent journalists to view the body to prove that we got the right guy? Why haven’t we released hundreds of photographs of his corpse?
I’m not suggesting that bin Laden’s death was a hoax. But it does seem to me that our actions are playing into the hands of our enemies, people who will claim that we didn’t kill him or that bin Laden is some kind of hero and worthy of respect.
I loved that scene of Vir from Babylon 5! The series foreshadowed it by what, two years? Three? Compare that to other series that are just making it as they go along…
