So, I pulled up this video on YouTube:

[youtube GSMCRD35ch4]

Within a few seconds, all of my cats had run upstairs and were orbiting around me, trying to figure out where the new cat was. Other cat videos have caused one or more of them to become upset and growl or fold ears back; but this one had them all… interested. Stranger, it made them all extremely playful with each other, like sonic catnip. Weird. Whatever the cat in the video is saying, it must be terribly fascinating.

  1. It got my cat, Nessie, interested, too. As soon as it started she rushed into the room and looked at me (for an explanation, perhaps). She watched the video to the end, but at 1:14 she rubbed her head on the chair.

Yeah, there’s something terribly important being said.

  2. Mine totally ignored it. Played it twice, and she didn’t show even the slightest interest.

Of course, with the tinny tiny speaker on this netbook, maybe it lost something in the translation.

  3. These are not normal cats, but Satanic devil cats as the video shows.
They are saying the Lord’s Purr backwards, and no doubt any cat listening to it is drawn to them, expecting some sort of infernal orgy to begin shortly.
Seriously, the cat at the beginning sounds like it wants something, like food or to be let outside, and the cats listening to it probably want to see what’s up and get in on the action if there is food involved.
Check out what they think of Smokey, who recently went for the Guinness record for world’s loudest cat:

As can be seen in the video of her purring while eating, this is a cat that likes eating a _lot_. 😉
Really pretty face on her too.

  4. Maybe they should have used this for the old meow mix commercials.

  5. Feed your cat Meow Mix and curse it to Hell?
It would be a different approach, but I’m sure there are a lot of Goth cat owners… 😀

  6. BTW, there a great tale about where cats came from.
Trying to figure out a way to sink Noah’s Ark, the Devil snuck aboard in the form of a mouse and began to gnaw a hole in the bottom of the hull.
Noah spotted it several times, and as he had two mice aboard already and both were accounted for, knew something funny was going on.
He tried to to catch it numerous times, but the devil mouse was too fast and would retreat under the bags of food for the animals where he couldn’t get at it, and begin gnawing away at the planks again.
Finally one day when he spotted it and it had almost finished making its hole he cursed at it and hurled his furry gloves at it.
In mid-flight God turned the gloves into a male and female cat, and they caught the mouse and devoured it.
Ever since cats have been welcome aboard ships…but their eyes glow at night, because they still have a bit of the devil’s fire in them from when they ate him on the Ark.

  7. My car reacted to this. My cat reacted MUCH more to the dinosaur sounds in “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.” Every time a dinosaur would make a noise, the calico here would sit up and look around nervously, ears in attack pose.
