As soon as you say, “too much gun” the gun grabbers will latch onto it like stink on shit. (Pardon the expression.) The .500 S&W Magnum is actually the next step up. People have hunted water buffalo in Africa with that thing.

Life’s too short to worry about what the pearl clutchers will say about *everything.*

      • sferrin

        True.

C’mon Scott, so long as we’re not talking about a Lahti then there is no such thing as “too much gun.”

From my point of view, the purpose of a handgun is to be readily accessible, easily drawn, effective at taking out the badguy. This thing would be a pain to carry, would take a long time to draw, would be challenging to aim in a timely fashion, and while it would be effective in taking out the badguy, it’s also take out the wall behind him and the kitten farm and stripper factories behind *that.*

Well, if nothing else, it shows the strength of modern alloys. If you went back 150 years and had a revolver made for those bullets, you couldn’t even try to use it. The damn thing would explode!

This is meant for big game hunting (hence the bipod), not putting in your dresser next to the bed. (Though I imagine somebody has done the latter at some point.)

        • Scottlowther

          > This is meant for big game hunting

What, like pheasant? Jeeze, wouldn’t be anything left, just a cloud of feathers and a horrible metallic screeching sound.

What if you encountered a gorilla, bear or an angry elephant? You can never pack too much heat. It’s not like I’m expecting one to carry and Lahti 20mm rifle around.

        • Scottlowther

In that case, you carry an SJW with your. Most useful in such circumstances are white male SJW’s… self-hating, scrawny things; they screech real loud but are too weak from a diet of organic wheat germ and kale to actually get up and run away, never mind put up a fight. While the gorilla, bear or angry elephant is stomping the SJW, you simply saunter away, safe in the knowledge that you are secure in your person *and* you didn’t need to take out an endangered majestic beast.

If you’re going to talk about “too much gun” I think this more than qualifies:

      You have my attention.

It’s always fun to see what people end up doing when they say “hold my beer”, this is obviously that moment for a gunsmith…….

my best friend had the big Smith in .460. Its a one-hand firing safe shell. ballistically superior at any realistic range than the .500, which is something you want two hands on. Ive fired that in both the longbarrel “pro shop” version and the “snub” version-that was a handful. As for what the cylinder gap does, you get similar from a .357. its a great demonstration of why grip matters on a wheelgun.
