There’s a Burnside carbine for sale nearby. It dates from the Civil War and appears to be in largely good condition, but there’s some pitting. Does anybody know what this sort of rifle in this sort of condition should go for? More to the point, anybody really, really want this?

Man, its a CIVIL WAR Burnside carbine! Of COURSE you’d want it! I do!

  2. Flayderman’s lists values as Good: $950, Fine: $2250, Excellent: $3250. I’m always hesitant to describe condition based on photos; there is obviously some very noticeable pitting, but it looks pretty decent otherwise. I believe the barrel band is on backwards; the top of the “U” should be facing forward, at least it should if the Burnside follows the conventions of other US martial longarms of the period.

  3. Does it not appear that the stock has been refinished? I would think that along with the pitting would put it in Good condition at best, and perhaps lower depending on whether the refinisher knew what he was doing.
