Iran successfully launches satellite into orbit

Oh, goody. I, for one, don’t want to go to bed under the light of a Shariah moon.

  1. If they ever did lob a nuke at Israel, they would be _so_ toast around a hour later when the Jericho missiles started coming down all over the place.
You can imagine their approach to spaceflight; their first suborbital space rocket carried mice, worms, and a turtle…the second should carry a Iraqi or an Israeli.
If they are recovered successfully, they will know it’s safe to send up a monkey. 😀

  2. There’s (very repetitive*) video of the launch here:

    * Somewhat like the Koran, which I am presently making a courageous, and probably doomed, effort to read end-to-end. You don’t realize how well the Bible is written till you read the Koran. It’s a real page-turner by comparison.
I’m so sick and fucking tired of reading about that female camel that got hamstrung and caused Allah to get really pissed off.
That poor critter has shown up in at least 10 Suryas so far, and I’m only about 1/5 of the way through. In Arabic, this all rhymes, which no doubt helps…at least somewhat.

  3. Forget the moon (for now). This means they can launch a weapon targeting almost anywhere on Earth.

    • Not necessarily. Precision target landing is a very difficult task; there’s a reason NASA usually aimed for the Pacific back in the days of Mercury and Gemeni.

      • Also, the total throw weight of the missile would be pretty small in the ICBM role; since it can only put around 120 pounds into orbit, that means as a ICBM its RV could only weight around 250 pounds; which would be awfully difficult to do when the weight of a fairly primitive nuclear weapon and the warhead’s ablative heat shielding are taken into account.

  4. The silver lining on this shows a move towards space across the planet, which hopefully will eventually scare the US out of anti-space cuts of the future.
